According to Kobe fans Kobe would destroy Lebron in one on one game. I wonder why they think that way if Kobe can't really guard Lebron and hopefully they're not believeing offense is everything.
Also, don't forget 2 blocks from an all star game proving you wrong.
If we're talking about prime Kobe, then yes he probably would beat LeBron. It'll be close though. Kobe's footwork, creativity, perimeter game & post-up game is on a different level then LeBron's. James has the size advantage & athleticism. It'd be close, pick your poison.
Kobe is a better one on one player (by a large margin) but LeBron's natural gifts will off-set that advantage.
Not sure why Kobe would guard Lebron? Kobe is a guard. Lebron is a Forward/ PF. Do people rag on Chris Paul's defense because he can't guard David Lee in the post? It just doesn't make much sense.
I'm not saying Kobe should guard Lebron. I just remembered a thread in which Kobe fans were so confident that Kobe would destroy Lebron in 1vs1 game because of his footwork and other skills rhytmic thesis mentioned.
In that scenario Kobe would be logically forced to guard Lebron and like rhythic thesis said I don't see Kobe stopping Lebron defensively once he gets the ball and overpowers Kobe close to the basket for high percentage shots. We've seen Lebron overpower Artest, who is more suited for this kind of defense on Lebron than Kobe is, many times to get easy layups around the basket. On the other hand I see Kobe taking way more fadeaways and similar lower percentage shots.
And, T-Mac never guarded Prime LeBron either when he was in his prime as well. He probably checked him a couple of times when he was on his last legs, but it's not like he ever had a full assignment of defending LeBron when he was more capable. So it's similar to his case with MJ.
