And I'm sure Phil's second selection would be Sam Jones, you know, because he has 10 rings and all. I'm sure that's his idea of excellence too.

Phil's basically Kobe's 2nd father.

It's not denial it's just a diplomatic choice. Push come to shove, I think Phil would honestly take even Shaq over Russell.

Russell was a great player, but only a damn fool would pick him over several other choices just because he won a bunch of titles on a stacked Celtics squad.

Not so sure about that, since he played against one and coached the other. Either stance is perfectly acceptable, so there's no shock value here.

Who other than Cousy and Havlicek is a HOFer without Russell?

Err ... his daughter was raped 5 years earlier according to that interview. Which I didn't know. Not surprised something like that would hit home for him. It's actually an interesting interview without Kobestans having to make it all about him.

Sam Jones's name is often invoked, but that's because the people who do it didn't bother to do the research, otherwise they'd know Jones barely played and wasn't a significant contributor to the Celtics' titles until 1962, at which point they'd already won four times.

Dude gives his philosphy on God in the interview and Kobe fans find the Kobe snipet to be the most noteworthy part of the interview.

Says it all.

- don't why people still can't undertsand...

- SuperStar players ( players who are looked upon by the fans as bieng arguably the best) are judged by Winning...

- people who use Robert Horry or Sam Jones are clearly basketball illiterates......it's tired and played...
