Default Simple "technical foul" change for playoffs

The current NBA rule is that any combination of two technical fouls and/or flagrant fouls is an automatic ejection from the game.

This is too restrictive. If someone gets a technical, now they have to worry about any hard foul they give. Or if you get a flagrant, you might accidentally get a technical in an argument with another player.

Simple rule change....for the playoffs, make it THREE for automatic ejection. It will allow refs to easily call technicals if they need to, without worrying about ruining a playoff game with ejection. Also, players will have more leeway in playing hard and showing emotion without worrying about being kicked out.

Of course, refs always have the right to kick someone out immediately for something, like throwing a punch, etc. But this would give flexibility in the playoffs to ensure the game isn't ruined....

OR you could just control yourself and not get the Ts in the first place

Why this new rule though? Hardly anyone is having a true problem with this? Am I missing something, or is everything going just fine?

What a joke. Guy's not even a coach. I wonder what he tells his team during timeouts.

"GUYS, REMEMBER TO CHERRY PICK. OK? SHAQ, I KNOW I GET YOU 1/2 THE POSSESIONS, SO STAY AND PLAY SOME D, AND WE'LL TRY TO IGNORE THE FACT THAT WE CAN'T DEFEND A PICK AND ROLL ALTHOUGH TONY AND DUNCAN ARE DOING IT EVERY TIME DOWN THE FLOOR.

SUNS ON THREE"

I still think this applies. Dwight Howard yesterday is perfect example.

Imo they should just change to to as many techs as you want but make the penalty more harsh and same as a flagrent so 2 free throws and the ball, that way good players that are emotional are not thrown out of games and there is a fairly stiff penalty in the process.

No need to be throwing players out for arguing, just a bit tougher penalty will do the trick imo.

I agree. Competition does not mean one must lose all sense of self-control. And as others have said, the number of players who have been ejected from an NBA playoff game in this manner is so low that it seems to suggest it's either a non-issue or at least a situation where, as referenced, players are able to control themselves.

Moreover, changing the rule to allowing three technicals would only lead to the same issue once a player was T'd up twice. After the second technical, players would have to be careful or else they might accidentally pick up the third T that'd lead to an ejection. Then we'd be here talking about allowing four technicals.

Basically, if Rasheed Wallace could make it through 99% of his playoff games under the current format, it seems to insinuate this isn't a real problem.

Also, I admit I cannot tell if this thread is serious or sarcastic.

I push you, the ref makes a mistake and calls double technicals. T You say ? WHAT THE ****, HE PUSHED ME.

That's an ejection. That's not utter loss of control.

This is a very rare case, especially in the NBA playoffs. Also, to the NBA's credit, the ability for officials to now check video reviews of altercations reduces the chance for an innocent party to wrongfully receive a technical foul, particularly when it may lead to their ejection.

Would people not rather see once a player gets 1/2 techs for the coach to take them out of the game (let them cool off) since hes hurting the team by gifting free points rather than seeing them get thrown out for a whole game?

The NBA technical fouls are given out basically at random. To have them lead to suspensions which could affect playoff series is absolutely asinine. Yesterday Andre Miller got called for a foul. He jumped up and down, ran down the court skipping angerly, and then ran back to scream obscenities at the ref. NO TECHNICAL FOUL. Dwight's ejection was less than that - how is that fair?

Something that has become so arbitrary in it's application as the technical foul rule should not lead to suspensions.
