This is where my foolish post above would apply. It's ignorant to try and strictly define it by the actual decades - '60's, '70's, '80's, etc. -- but you'll continue to do so because you think it gives you a way to put Kobe on a list of Russell/Wilt, Kareem, Magic/Bird, and Jordan, even though Duncan has just as legitimate of a case for the 2000's as Kobe.

Why are you always so easily agitated? How is using what is commonly considered a decade "ignorant?"

Because as he already pointed out, if you do it by decade then you have more than one player being argued for the spot and there is no clear cut selection for 00's. A Kobe Stan would like it to be, but unfortunately it's just not clear cut.

Typically the 90-91 season is called the 91 season not the 90 season. Just a bit confusing.

I'm sorry it bothers you?

It's "ignorant" because some players don't neatly fit into a specific decade, the ones that are most commonly considered a decade in "real life". Just like with generations. In sports, a generation is, what, probably 10 or so years? But in "real life" the common, accepted definition of a generation is around 25 years (I think).

And in sports, when you're trying to argue who the best was of a certain decade, or generation (something that no one really does in real life; don't see too many argument on "who was the best human being of the 1980's?) you can really hurt someone's case if you try and strictly define it by the '60's, '70's, '80's, etc. if they were drafted in the middle of a decade like 1985.

Basically, I guess an easy way to say it, is that generations and decades aren't as easily defined in sports as they are in "real life".

It's just my opinion, though. I shouldn't have said it's ignorant, but in Griff's case, I know exactly why he's doing it. And yes, it does irritate me...more than it should.
