I always find this 'unbeaten in the Finals' comment ridiculous, and this is coming from a Spurs fan.

It's better to make it to the Finals and lose than get bounced in the second round.

In that respect, you need to give props to Kobe over Duncan, he made it 7 times over Duncans 4. However, that is more than cancelled out by Duncans 16 consecutive playoff appearances vs Kobe missing the playoffs in his prime.

Why would losing in the first/second/third round be alright but losing in the finals immediately exclude you from the GOAT discussions? What about missing the playoffs?

Would OP really take a player who: played 1 finals and won, other that run never making the playoffs at all. Over someone: who played 15 finals series and lost all?

What stupid logic lol. What about all those years when the alleged dynastic Spurs were being sent home by the Lakers? That would be 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2008? How can you be a dynasty if another teams is taking home even more hardware in the midst of your "dynasty"?

Duncan may have never lost in the Finals, but the Spurs have never successfully defended their title, or even appeared in consecutive Finals. MJ, Kareem, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Russell, Kobe, Hakeem and Shaq have all done that.

Only in ISH would someone think its more prestigious to lose in the 1st round and/or not even be in the playoffs than it is to lose in the Finals...

Player A:
Has great supporting cast, loses in 1st round or cant even get to playoffs.

Player B:
Has bad supporting cast, gets to the Finals, but loses.

Player A > Player B.... because 0 of 0 Finals is better than 0 of 1....

It's funny cause he thinks that they are "not the norm" because he said he thought other players back then were "part-time" ( )

I think he means cause guys like Terry Dischinger and ELGIN BAYLOR were in the Military some seasons? So he's assuming everyone in the entire league was just "part-time" like that or something? Who knows, nothing he or his alt has said has made much sense so far

Bill Russell wasn't even healthy in the Finals they lost. He played like 3 games and was injured in the 3rd one. It actually tells more about his impact on that team, rather than the hilarious "his teammaters bailed him out" argument by agenda driven people.

The Celtics lost only 2 playoff series in Bill Russell's tenure. Nobody will ever top that again.

How good were Russell's teammates in that 57-58 Finals?

They won game four without him, 109-98. And they lost game five, again without him playing a minute, 102-100. And in game six, in which he hardly played, they lost by one point.

Yes, they would surely have won with a healthy Russell, but it does point out just how much help he had early in his career (and it would continue until he retired.)

I've never undermined his help, just that it wasn't greater that his impact overall. That's my only point.

By the way, is this really jlauber ?

The reason the Spurs won is because they have one of the greatest coaches of all time. As for the Bulls, the reason that they won is because they had one of the greatest coaches of all time.

Duncan is actually not a good player. He is just tall. I guess by your logic Manute Bol is like one of the best ever?
