Default Question about playoff seeding

So say the playoffs start today.

I know LAC is over DEN in the standings since they're at the top of their division, but they have a worse record. So would Denver have HCA as the team with the better record?

Division winners are guaranteed a top 5 seed. I believe the Atlantic Division champs last year started on the road in a 4 vs. 5 matchup vs. ATL

the standings are a bit messed up right now due to win %

Memphis is 3rd currently despite being .5 back of Denver
Denver is 5th but would have HCA over LAC so really the 4th seed.

Division winners were guaranteed a top 4 I thought, that's why LAC are above Denver at the moment.

Anyone know?

They are guaranteed a top 4 but when you are starting on the road in a 4 vs. 5 seed you are really a 5 seed. If the NBA change the wording to top 5 it would not change anything.

Top 4 is guaranteed for Division winners and regarding of seeding, the better record gets home court. So the #6 seed can get top seed over #3.

Right now, the 3-5 in the West is within a game of each other. Memphis is third due to % points, Clips are 4th due to guarantee, Denv is 5th but would have HCA over either side.

Actually it would. For example if the 3 best teams of a conference are from the same division, one of them would be the 5th seed now, whereas in your example the leader of the other two divisions would be the 4th/5th seeds.

Basically the current rules avoid division leaders to face each other in the 1st round.
