I'm worried about the road games for the Lakers, especially since Gasol is out. Their next 2 are on the road and they can't be losing games right now. They literally need to keep this 10-4 (.714 W-L%) pace to make the playoffs. Even if they do, they can still miss the playoffs because Houston and Utah keep on winning games and are already above .500.
If Lakers make playoffs and get Gasol back, no team can stop the Lakers. Only the Heat may have a chance.
Not so fast. Lakers should have made a trade to shore up their defensive holes, if Gasol comes back the team will be a very tough out but they're still very vulnerable. I guess its the difference between having Steve blake as back up PG and Chris Duhon.
They won against POR (25-30), BOS (29-26), PHO (18-36), CHA (13-42), BKN (33-23), DET (22-35), MIN (20-32), NOH (19-37), OKC (40-15), UTA (31-24)
If my calc isn't failing me...
Average win% = .457% and to be honest, OKC, BKN and UTA are the quality wins here. Rest are "meh" or "Should have won either way". If you take the OKC and BKN wins out, you've got a 8 game winning streak against teams with average winning % of .401% and that's BOS, UTA and maybe POR keeping it at around that mark. Rest are pulling it down.
They lost against LAC (39-18), MIA (38-14), BOS (29-26), PHO (18-36)
Average win% = .566% and if you remove PHO, who they shouldn't lose to, it goes up to .661%
In short, they've been winning against teams they should win, losing to good teams and getting an occasional quality win.
Nothing to brag about. It's the least they could do with the team they've put together.
