People on here, especially of late, have been popping up with threads about what ______ legend thinks about current players vs past players, this era vs. their era, etc. Even worse is the fact that people are using these legends' opinions as PROOF of something
usually followed by some emoticon like
declaring a victory
Not saying their opinions are invalid. If you ask them about THEIR OWN experiences, that's one thing. Ask Magic who the most difficult players were to guard. Ask Barkley who the best rebounder he ever went against was. Ask Jordan who talked the most trash. But leave it at their own experiences from their own era.
One thing's been proven time and time again: PEOPLE WILL PROTECT THEIR OWN GENERATION. Hell go outside of sports. Ask people what the best era for music is. People who grew up in the 60s will say the 60s. People who grew up in the 80s will say the 80s. People who grew up in the 90s will say the 90s. Ask people about today's cartoons vs. the ones when they were growing up. They will always say the ones from their era are best.
Basically, if you're asking people to compare their era vs. a past era, they will (at least 9 times out of 10) protect their era. Of course Magic says Bron would lose to MJ 10 times out of 10. Of course Jordan says players from now couldn't make it in his era. But can we PLEASE stop posting these interviews from legendary players like their a source or proof of anything?
