Was prime Jordan in the ballpark of 50% shooting efficiency from the midrange area, as would be indicated in 1997? We know he slipped a great deal in 1998 in part due to a cracked knuckle and torn ligament on his shooting hand. I can only wonder what his mid-range shooting percentage was during his prime (notably 1991 & 1992) given that his overall FG% was much higher. Or perhaps he was that much better in the paint? He was already considered among the top midrange shooters by 1991. I believe SI called him the "best jump shooter" in the league.

Yeah, that's awful, it's Melo-esque. Surprised me too, but there's a good chance it's an outlier year. He was at 61% in '98, which still isn't that good, but it's a lot better than '97.
