Default Should the Dunk Contest be eliminated from All Star Weekend??

Is there really any dunk a player can do in 2013 that we haven't seen before??? I mean unless someone can jump from the 3-point line and dunk the contest is pointless. Why not replace the dunk contest with

Longer three point contest

Game of Horse?

The longer this contest goes on the harder it gets to do something new.

There's no derth of creativity. Guys can come up with new combinations for a long ass time really.

But that creativity is hampered when they're allowed to use props and lead ins and shit like that. It should be you're allowed one prop per contest, and lets get back to just dunking.

There's plenty of stuff left to be done in an NBA dunk contest.

Just watch the Sprite Amatuer dunk contests of the last few years. Or watch James White's youtube videos.

- foul line windmill
- between the legs 360
- between the legs from foul line
- 540
- 720
- between the legs twice
- behind the back while doing a 360
- behind the back from foul line
- between the legs from Andre Igoudala alley oop position behind the backboard
- behind the back alley oop from Andre Igoudala position

...and much more. I just typed that out in literally a minute, without stopping

There was a time when there were no dunk contests in All-star Weekends because they said the same thing, and when it came back there was Vince Carter.

Also, H-O-R-S-E doesn't really work here since boring straight-up shooters will ruin it i.e. Kevin Durant.

No, that's the whole reason All-Star Saturday Night was created.

If felt naked that one season in 1998 when they removed it. It won't survive with just a shoot out and skills challenge.

If that happens, the rookie/sophomore games will move back to Saturday and Friday will be vacant which equals ... less money for the NBA.

No, but I do think there should be some form of 1 on 1 contest. That would be awesome if the players tried.

Yep, but that was only the 1999 one. The year 1998 had an All-star Weekend without a dunk contest.
