Default Dominique Wilkins' dunks were ugly as hell

Am I the only one who thinks this?

Maybe it's because he was pigeon-toed or bowlegged or whatever, but his legs always looked funky whenever he dunked.

I won't deny his power and effectiveness. His dunk was a devastating in-game tool, but it just didn't have much artistry or aesthetics.

I guess you could say there's an ugly unconventional beauty to them.

His dunks were angry and powerful. Who cares about beauty and artistry, I wanna see someone tear the f*@king rim off.

His dunks were angry, his upper body stuff is more impressive on his jams. His lower body always looked awkward on dunks, I totally agree. He never moved his legs.

And one of the reasons why MJ DESERVED to beat him in '88. MJ mixed up power and grace, and understood that to sell the illusion of flying it takes greater athleticism and dexterity to contort your legs to play into the image of the dunk.

Same goes for Shawn Kemp, he had the power of Nique (maybe more so in game dunks) but he was also athletic enough to move and contort his legs and lower body.

He was about power. His dunks rocked the rim.

How does someone develop strength to dunk that hard? No one else throws it down like that.

I'm able to appreciate Nique for what he is. He was definitely a G thug when it came to dunking.

His take-offs look weird sometimes too though. His knees seem to bend outward, and it makes me afraid he was going to hurt his legs every time. Surprised he never struggled with knee issues.

His legs look very awkward and stiff on his dunks. His upper body does all the work on the vast majority of his dunks and moves.

This is none more evident than when Nique got HUNG on one os his dunks either the '93 or '94 All Star Game if I remember correctly.

He actually didn't have insane hops by any means. His upper body was LONG and strong.

You must have him confused with the other Wilkins.

His brother Gerald could jump. I'm not saying Nique couldn't jump, I just think he was a very limited two foot jumper, and his dunks are nice do to his upper body contortions, not his leaping ability.

Just for the sake of reference, that missed dunk came in '91: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoYmXUK1EW4

I never really found Wilkins' dunks ugly, per se, but I know where you guys are coming from. There were a lot of things happening on his dunks and they didn't always occur in symphony with one another.
