How is this? Kobe gets into the top 10 while shooting 40% in several Finals series and being second fiddle to Shaq for 3 straight titles.

LeBron basically averages 30/8/7 with 30+ PER and does so on insane efficiency + with elite defense. He basically dominates everything and will have all the accolades (MVPs, Finals MVPs, all-defense/all-NBA honors etc).

He's a surefire lock to finish top-2 all time. Only player who will be comparable in the end is Jordan.

What about 2010 against the Celtics in which he faked a shoulder injury and was trying to do the same in 2011 before the Heat staff said he didn't had no injury at all.

If they called every travel and charge against LeBron he'd barely score double digits.

LeBron > Bird. If he played on a stacked team ever since he entered the league like Bird and Kobe and Magic did, he'd have like 5 titles by now and nobody would even consider this a legitimate debate.

Lmao at 100x the defensive player, Bird's a better team defender, and post defender. I agree that Lebron's a better defensive player but mainly due to athleticism.
On offense Bird's a better shooter, off-ball player, passer, better postgame.. Some of them are not even close.
Comparing PER across eras = ignorance

See you know nothing what you're talking about.. When Bird got to the Celtics they had the 2nd worst record in the league, with Bird and the same players from the previous year they had the best record and did great in the PS, winning the championship later in 1981 with the only main addition in Parish.
Plus Bird faced way better competition in terms of teams, top players and SF's, but let's just forget that.

I still rank Bird over Lebron, but PER is actually the best stat to compare across eras because it is normalized each year based on the players in that year compared to their peers.

LOL...it's actually the best stat to use to compare statistical impact across eras.

No, you clearly are just making up nonsense. Bird is a horrible defender compared to LeBron. Better team defender and post defender? Not in his wildest dreams. LeBron is a 5 position defending defensive phenom, as good as any perimeter defender in the league. LeBron's PER blows away Bird's. It's not even close. Doesn't matter which era it is, Bird would never put up multiple seasons of 30-32 PERs.

Bird never played with a team as bad as LeBron's Cavs. The way you try to downplay Bird's 1981 supporting cast just because they were a bad team the year before is comical. Bird didn't play with a team whose second best scorer was a dead average player in Mo Williams. The only reason people rank Bird higher is because of his accomplishments/titles. And the only reason he has those titles is because he had a better team early on in his career.

No it's not

Including PER's MANY flaws it favors the hell out of players playing at a not-considerable slower pace. Like Bird, or any other superstar, would average considerably worse stats had he played a slower pace, which is not true.
I didn't need this to say what I've said above but he pretty much averaged the same stats at a slower pace.

PER doesn't mean the world or even close but if you wanna use it, along with other things, look at PER against a certain player's actual competition.

Plus things like PER doesn't show Bird's off the charts intagibles, fact that he didn't need to be ball dominant to be dominant, the way he impacted the game in many ways.. At their best, Bird's a better player than Lebron, not by much but he is.
