What has the world come to when someone is seriously trying to argue that Bird was a better defender than LeBron? Just stop… please, my eyes are bleeding from reading that drivel.

Bird a better defender than LeBron? Not a chance.

-Bird Was a Better Post Up 1 on 1 Player: Refined Post Game and The Master of the Half Hinch.

- Bird Was a Better Rebounder: Master of the Boxing Out and Seeing Angles Before the Ball Bounced of the Rim or Backboeard. Averaged 15.3 RPG in 1981 vs Moses Malone. One Must Know How To Learn How To Rebound Prior to Being Just Heavy Or Having Alot of Girf. Its a Skill.

- Bird Was a Better Pure Passer: Maybe Not Assister but Passer Yes Definetly. Lebron Gets More APG because he Plays More PG-PointForward While Bird was a PG/SF/SF/PF Hybrid In One Skill Wise Without the Ballhandling

-Bird Was Better Defensively: Go Check Out Defensive Rating for Individial Defense and Bird Tops all SFs in NBA History. Check Out Defensive Win Shares for the Way He Blended Defensively with Parish and McHale. Bird Provoced More Shots Missed Because of his Great Man to Man Defense on PFs, Helpf Defense and was Great Stealer, Probably the Best Team Defender of the 80s.

-Bird Was a Better 3-Point Shooter, Far Range Shooter, Pure Shooter and FT Shooter than Lebron.

-Bird Was Clutcher: Go Ask Other Players How Many Times Bird Would Single Out a Player and Space on the Court and Say That He Was Going to Take the Last Seconds Shot Right There and Do It!

-Bird Had a Superior Killer Instinct: He Was The Only One In The NBA Who Would Back Up His Trashtalking Prior to Games Themselves!

Being More Athletic, Faster, Quicker, More Agil, Stronger o Heavier Does Not Guarantee Being Better than Your Opponent Unless You Have High B-Ball IQ and Fundamentls. Go Ask Dwight Howard Who Was More Athletic than Hakeem and Kareem and Tell Him Where Ranks Next to Those Overly Skilled Centers.

Rules of Today Favor 1 on 1 Slashers...This is Where Lebron Would Excel in Any Era But He Would Be Hammered in the Play-Offs Had He Played Back When Real Normal Fouls Where Today`s Ejections and the Painted Area Was Filled With 7fters that Where Allowed To Camp and Slam You To The Ground If You Got To Excited About Driving to the Basket

BTW: LOL The Quotes from a German or Mav Fan Saying Dirk Was Better than Barkley and Malone. This Dude Deserves To Be Slapped by an Iron Bar!

Lebron is definitely the better defender in my opinion.

You cant knock on this guys game. I think he will easily go down as the most dominant SF of all time, but not BEST sf of all time. Just like Shaq is regarded as the most dominant center, yet people still put KAJ ahead of him on all time lists.

LeBron would torch Bird, absolutely light him up like a Christmas tree. He'd blow by him (way too quick/agile), post him up and back him into the 5th row of the stands (too strong) and dunk on him every single play.

On the other hand, LeBron stands a very good chance at containing Bird. Much better than the other way around.

Yah coz Bird is so easy to defend Lebron would have a field day...

Fck Bird, he is one dimensional SF. He can't do sh!t against Lebron's godlike defense.

Lebron is the god of defense, he can defend all positions, he can lock down prime Shaq too.

I bet Lebron can shutdown prime MJ if he wanted to.

You are What 20 Years old? 15?

What Do U Think Bird Would do To Lebron in the Post? Totally Destroy Him. Bird Actually Had a Post Game That Was Refined!

I`ve Seen Bird Battle Charles Oakley The Oak Tree (260 lbs 6`8) "One of the Strongest Lower Torsos in the NBA History" for Rebounds and Win The Battle Many Times. I`ve Seen Bird Control Mahorn (6`9 270 lbs) in the Paint Where He Couldn`t Even Back Him Up. I`ve Seen Dennis Rodman Try To Grab Bird From the Back With Both Arms and Could Hardly Move Him (Dennis was 26 years old) THis Was Before the Weightlifting Era of the NBA So It Was All About Natural Strength. Bird Would Gain Atleast 15 Lbs or so Today...That Would Make Him around 235 lbs Today. Around Dirk`s Weight but Much Stronger Legs, Lower Torso and Thick Boned.

On the other hand, LeBron stands a very good chance at containing Bird. Much better than the other way around.

Bird`s Game is PG/SG/SF/PF while Lebron has a Weak Post Game On Stand Still Point. He Hasn`t Developed Yet as a Great Post Player. He Has Gotten Better but Thats It. You Need Faster Quicker, Slimer and Quicker Footed Playres like Rodman or Cooper To Contain Bird. And That Didn`t Work Well For Neither.

Bird Would Destroy Lebron in The 1) Post 2) Mid Range 3) Far Range 4) 3-Point Line

I know Dirk Nowitzski is a PF but whatever, if Lebron doesn't have the balls to guard Dirk what makes you think he would want to guard Bird? Bird is an offensive monster like Dirk plus a better passer and better IQ. Also, if Lebron raped a white girl like Kobe did would you even be comparing him to other greats as of today? Why do you think Lebron joined Wade or recruited Ray Allen? Because unlike Bird, Jordan, Dirk, or Kobe he can't close games by himself.

Bird is too slow footed to stick LeBron. Calling LeBron's post game weak is just old. Not based on actual fact or observable details when you actually watch him play. It's simply wrong, just like saying Rodman was a bad rebounder, Reggie was a bad shooter, etc. And guarding Dirk, a 7-footer with unlimited range, is just a silly thing to ask a 6'8" player to do. Seriously, who does that?

LeBron has closed games by himself just fine. 25 unanswered points in a 48/9/7 performance for the ages - 2007 Eastern Conference Finals Game 5 at Detroit.

2012 Eastern Conference Finals Game 6 at Boston on the brink of elimination - 45/15/5 on 19-26 FG.

Both are simply legendary moments that will be ingrained in the minds of anyone who was fortunate enough to watch basketball this generation. Nobody is forgetting those two playoff games of LeBron. You don't even have to bring out the numbers for these games (which themselves are disgusting). Everyone will remember these.

And now I ask you... name me the most memorable/clutch playoff game of Bird's career? Cus guaranteed it pales in comparison to those two from LeBron.

It's time we stop understating LeBron's greatness just because he isn't retired. If we're starting a draft including anyone in history, besides Jordan there ain't NOBODY I take over LeBron. Nobody.

Shaq is crazy underrated on this board

Bird during his 3 year peak is being underrated here. I like how people are just summarily dismissing him by simply saying he's unathletic and can't keep up

It's very close between the two. I have Bird's peak above Magic. They're all in the same tier

It's pretty obvious anybody who thinks Bird is overrated never got a chance to see him play. Take it from me: prime Bird was the pinnacle of basketball skill.

Don't worry--in 25 years people won't appreciate how athletic LeBron was.

Hopefully by then the NBA doesn't make a rule that prohibits defense since that's the trend.

Side note: I swear half this forum has never played basketball.

How old are you? Were you there to watch Bird play or were you too young busy picking your boogers in the 80s? If Lebron was that good like how he shut down Detroit in 05 playoffs then why did he left Cleveland? Why didn't he show up against Dallas in the finals if he was that good or even have the balls to guard Dirk? Don't even mention Dirk's height advantage even Dennis Rodman had the balls to guard 7 footers we're not talking about trying to stop a taller player we're talking about having the balls to guard him. You mentioned Lebron would be too fast for Bird but have you ask yourself how would Lebron stop Bird on defense? Well, I'll tell you Lebron's answer which still might not work: Shane Battier. Also, ask yourself this, is Lebron that good or is his teammates making him look that good? There's a big difference between Lebron and Bird, when a team is in need of crucial basket, Lebron passes but Bird scores. If Lebron was that good then why play with a closer in Wade? Why play with a clutch shooter like Ray Allen? Why play with an allstar in Chris Bosh? Why play with one of the best defenders in Shane Battier? Why play with a clutch big man in Rashard Lewis? Why play with a great 3 point shooter in Mike Miller? Wow Lebron can just play on a team with Chris Paul, Carmelo, Garnett, and Howard but hogs all the stats to make him the King. In this case he would be greater than Jordan!

I'm gonna wait until LeBron's peak has ended.

In all honesty, Bird had a lot more ability on offense (except dunking ability and maybe a little less explosive, but his unreal shooting bade up for it) but LeBron's probably a better defender (not saying Bird is bad, but Bron's played really impressive D for a while). I'd still take Larry over LeBron, but that could change when LeBron's finished with his prime.
