he is the best shooter in the league, and one of the best scorers
look at how hes defended, you cant give him any space, defenders have to be up tight on him, so when he drives by him, they often foul him, and on top of that, hes very good at getting to the rim, and finishing strong.

he earns his freethrows.
Saying Durant wouldn't be an All Star without getting babied by the refs is one of the stupidest things I've read here in a while, and that's saying something here on ISH.
But that is a close second. Earns his FTs? As in all of them? Not even close, the kid gets to go the line every time a player doesn't play defense like it's a walk through practice.

Do you watch Bron play defense? He doesn't hack, and he doesn't foul. He plays really fundamental defense with his feet and angles. When he gets beat, he doesn't try to strip from behind, he just lets them go. Those lack of foul calls are accurate.

This if the foul Durant is "earning" are legit then every driver in the league should have 10+ FTs with lebron over 20, same with melo and the way he has gotten mugged. Some of the fouls those 2 get would translate into flagrants for durant. He has to be pretending to watch the games if he thinks the refs haven't given him incredibly weak to blatant superstar calls.

How is it a mystery? Why do people still assume low-post/paint = more FTA, more calls?
It hasn't been like this is years. Iso's, pump fakes, jumpers, perimeter get majority of calls. It's been like this for the past 6 or 7 years because of how the league is.
Plus, it's easier to see & make calls on iso's than it is on low-post plays.

So what? Players get phantom calls all the time. LeBron doesn't. He's protected.

Melo should be leading the league in FTs, easily.
It's clearly, as someone suggested, the Refs realizing that LeBron has hit the "too good" status where they try so hard not to give him superstar calls that they miss a ton of calls, Granted, he gets away with offensive fouls often, but even more are missed by the defense attempted to guard him.
Re: Heat has Lebron, Wade and Bosh and only 12th FTA/gm?
Last season my brother brought something up interesting as pertained to Harden and his ft attempts. He was saying how the slower players (Harden is not any kind of great athlete) always get the calls that more athletic/fast guys don't get because they are slower so there is so much time to see any kind of contact whether it's minimal or not. Lebron is so fast and so powerful that he basically shrugs fouls off like Shaq used to and finishes when others would not and therefore get the foul call. When you finish and ARE FOULED you are less likely to get the call.
Either way, there is no doubt that Durant get's some of the most bullshit calls. For all the people complaining about Wade over the years...he at least attacked the basket with abandon and was actually hammered a lot of time.

On offense, not defense.
He doesn't take risks, he averages less steals and blocks than he should based on his athleticism, positioning, and IQ but it's because he doesn't risk fouling.

your missing the point
durant isnt defended like every driver in the league
hes the best scorer in the league, and defenders dont treat him like every other scorer in the league. hes too good a shooter for that, you cant give him airspace, you have to play him tight, you have to be physical, and if durant is aggressive driving to the basket, then defenders are going to foul him.

Harden is actually really quick, and has pretty good leaping ability. Harden knows how to act out the foul better, though. He understands how to slow down before contact, and make the foul more dramatic and visual for the refs. But I agree.
Watch D-Rose, Westbrook, Bron ... they attack, and are so athletic, so strong in their core that they can take contact and finish. Never getting the calls.
Shaq was just a mutant, who was so un-fairly big, that it's un-fair to call fouls trying to guard him because he'd throw his weight around (which was unstoppable) and the only way to guard him was be really physical in return with him.
He got fouled a lot, but it cancels out given he fouled a lot himself. Shaq threw chicken wing elbows ALL the time, and threw his big ass around and just overwhelmed defenders with his size and weight.
Those perimeter guys not getting calls? That has more to do with them just being "too good" to get calls.
