Where did this guy even come from? I've never heard anything on Marcus Smart until now? Do you guys think this guys game can translate this well to the NBA and warrant the #1 pick?
I think he has more value in the nba as a pg than a sg. I could see him go top 3 or no worse than 14 so it would be tough seeing him return for a soph season
Here's a Player A vs. Player B comparison. Stats are from the freshman year of both players:
Player A: 14.2 pts; 5.9 reb; 4.7 ast; 0.8 blk; 3.0 stl; 40.2 FG%; 27.7 3PT%; 77.1 FT%
Player B: 14.9 pts; 4.5 reb; 4.7 ast; 0.4 blk; 1.2 stl; 47.7 FG%; 33.7 3PT%; 71.2 FT%
Player A is Marcus Smart. Player B is Derrick Rose from 2007-2008, the #1 pick of the draft after his freshman year. By the way, Smart is listed at 6'4'' and 225 lbs. Rose is listed at 6'3'' and 205 lbs. Of course Rose has world-class athleticism and shot slightly higher percentages than Smart.
Guy's a great player, but talking about A vs B I'd take Player B (Rose) 10/10 times based on those stats. 40% FG/ 27% 3P vs 47.7 FG/ 33 % 3P, with close stats across the board (minus steals).
40%? - I'm on the wagon. Not the next Wade Wagon - but I like the kid
Here is to actively hoping he's not the new Wade - in that he actually has a consistent jumper and 3 point shot and doesn't need refs to act as his personal crutch when he gets to the league
"Pay attention to Marcus Smart: The Oklahoma State guard might be the most unheralded player in the country right now. Seriously. The reason might be that on their own, none of his numbers jumps off the stat line -- he averages 14.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game -- but then go back and look at that list collectively.
He’s good at everything. Offensive, defense, scoring and sharing, he is the consummate individual player and the consummate teammate. In the victory against the Sooners, he had 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Just another day at the office. He's also the reason that the Cowboys are poised for their first NCAA tournament bid since 2010. Oklahoma State has won seven in a row. In that stretch, Smart is averaging 19.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.4 steals."
Great win against the Goons yesterday. TY Mr. Smart

3 hours ago today they named Marcus Smart --- Big 12 Freshman of the Year & Big 12 Player of the Year
"Smart is the fourth OSU player to be named Big 12 Player of the Year, joining James Anderson (2010), Tony Allen (2004) and John Lucas III (2004) and the school's seventh conference player of the year overall.
He's just the third freshman to be named both Big 12 Freshman and Player of the Year, along with Kevin Durant of Texas and Michael Beasley of Kansas State."-newsok
(wish this thread didn't compare him to D. Wade, but it helps get eyes on the thread )
