Rudy Gay was gracious toward the Memphis Grizzlies following his trade to the Toronto Raptors, but was surprised not to hear directly from anyone within the front office.
"I guess its time to move on," Gay said. "To my teammates and fans, thank you."
Gay didn't receive a phone call from CEO Jason Levien, or any of the new members of the management team.
“I can’t even get a phone call?”
Gay had been with the Grizzlies since his rookie season in 06-07.
“It was good. I can’t really complain about what happened when I was here. I was happy to see the team progress.”
Gay was not described as sounding angry during the conversation.

Wow, they couldn't even give him a call? I know the Grizzlies are a cheap ass, 3rd rate, po dunk franchise.....but c'mon. Try to have some class.

Maybe they already gave him a low down when he signed that contract. I could really see Chris Wallace saying "Ok we'll give you $17M a year but we'll trade you the first chance we get"
All the best to him tho. Hope he does well in Toronto.

well toronto is a pretty badass city (as you know I'm sure) and Gay seems at that age (26-27) where he's still about the money as much as anything. Not saying he's not a winner, but I'm sure he's well aware that he can leave canada in a couple years when he expires.

Neither franchise cares about winning. The Grizzlies are going to be 1st round fodder. Raptors could beat the Knicks in a series. But probably lose to every other playoff team.

I think he's relishing the opportunity to be a star. With a great friend and great PG in Lowry, who is less about managing and more about playmaking than Conley...and Toronto is obviously a great place to be, from the outside looking in (not to say it's not great to live in, but you know what I mean).
Re: Grizzlies Didn't Even Inform Rudy Gay Of Trade
He goes from Memphis to Toronto, why would he be mad? He'll probably miss the BBQ tho.
Players know that franchises are heartless. You are nothing more than a pawn to them. There have been countless stories of classless acts from franchises over time. Nothing new here.
Re: Grizzlies Didn't Even Inform Rudy Gay Of Trade
This is a partial truth by the way. Jason Levien (CEO) spoke with Rudy's agent about the trade before it happened and Chris Wallace called and texted Rudy after the trade happened. Are they supposed to call the player directly and tell them they might be traded? You go through the agent and then talk to the player if the trade happens. Why would they tell the player beforehand if for some reason the trade didn't work out?
