"Gay, averaging 17.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, signed a five-year, $82 million maximum contract in July 2010 with Memphis. The 6-foot-8 small forward is due $16.5 million this season with $37 million more over the next two years." (source: espn.com)

It's so funny how these small market teams sign all these undeserving players to huge deals and later complain that they can't pay them.
Everyone knew the contract that was offered to Rudy Gay was outrageous and yet they went through with it... and now they are whining despite Gay not falling in quality or anything.

You make it sound like they've refused to pay him or something drastic. Talking about Memphis "whining", they traded their player and his contract, if they hadn't signed him in the first place he would have been gone in free agency getting them nothing back.
By going the route they did they became a playoff contender while turning Gays 5(?) year contract into a 3 year making it a less horrible signing than it was to begin with.

Memphis made out like bandits. Prince who's stilll pretty good and serviceable starter AND Ed Davis who has been playing really well since Bargs injury.
Im sure the raptors are gonna hate the landry, bargs, kleiza, amir salaries more..Still gotta pay lowry...Moves have to be made but who wants those turds?

This guy gets it. It's Hollinger and them using stats to build a team around Randolph and Gasol aka how they win games. When things run through Rudy, the whole team slows down and the team struggles to score. Now Gasol and Randolph are surrounded by defensive wings and shooters. I love it.
I'm a huge Rudy Gay fan by the way, but it's not worth the money and doesn't fit ideally with this system.

Problem is how much do they really need Davis with DA, Gasol and Z-Bo there, I really like Davis but im not sure how much playing time hes going to get in Memphis.
