Default Was it the right move to retire Shaq´s number in L.A ?

He did not start his career as a Laker, he left them, won another ring in miami.........then played for countless other teams, even the Lakers hated rival the Celtics.

.
He did not seem moved or touched when the jersey was unveiled.........we know other players even cry.....

In the jersey ceremony speech he did not thank or mention one single teammate !.......

had it been all other teams, then yes.............But not sure if he belongs next to kareem, magic and kobe...........

he helped the Lakers get 3 chips, that's enough justification.

Yes, it was the right move. He was the centerpiece of three championship teams. Idiotic to even question it.

He definitely deserves it.

He had his most impactful, successful and memorable times with the Lakers and he sure does belong with those other Laker greats, especially when he's flat out better than some of those names up there during his tenure as a Laker.

Shaq certainly meant more to the Lakers than Gail Goodrich, Jamaal Wilkes and James Worthy. If their numbers are retired then Shaq's damn sure should be.

If 3 rings and 3 FMVPs don't get a jersey retirement, I don't know what does. And if Jamaal Wilkes can get his jersey retired by the Lakers, you can surely bet that Shaq's is.

just because you win a few championships, does that mean you get your number retired......no, it should not, and def. not in L.A.......i think you should be a Laker legend or at least a leader in some scoring category........

lolz at a few hahah its was a three peat and some people dont even win one. This was also Shaq prime era, Shaq helped rejuvenate a stagnant franchise, he deserves the ceremony they gave him. Maybe you can say it was to early, but he deserved it nonetheless.

how do you think Wilt got his jersey retired? he only has 1 chip. And it's hard to say anything positive about his leadership. He was choker as well.

Class move by the Laker org to cement the three-peat dynasty in the history books.

Shaq is happy and I hope Orlando retires Shaq's number as well. They should.

of course. How many players dominated the way Diesel did in his 8 years in LA? The list is short. How many players won 3 rings in a row? That list is even shorter

simply put, the guy dominated in a way few ever have. He def deserves a jersey up in the rafters in Staples

Of course, he led them to 3 straight championships when they hadn't been to a finals in almost a decade, and hadn't won a championship in a dozen years. Was the most dominant player in the league during that time, played 8 seasons with them. 3 consecutive championships is extremely significant, even for the Lakers. Especially when they hadn't been a contender for 5 seasons before he got there(a long drought for a team like the Lakers) and weren't close to a contender for the 3 seasons immediately after he left despite being a contender all 8 seasons he played there.

The loyalty thing is overstated. This is a business. We all remember how public Kobe was with his own trade demand in the summer of 2007, as public as Shaq was 3 years earlier. Even Magic demanded a trade in 1982. And neither teams or their star players are loyal in most cases. The Lakers were willing to trade Kareem for Ralph Sampson(had he entered the NBA) in 1982 when he was on the verge of leading them to a second championship in 3 years.

Most star players aren't like Tim Duncan.

I actually think Miami should consider it too. Getting Shaq and winning that title in 2006 really changed how people viewed that organization. Starting there and getting LeBron in 2010 has really probably put the Heat as one of the top 5 organizations in the NBA.

Sure, why not?

It's just a giant jersey, hanging around doing nothing. Much like his time in Cleveland and Boston.
