The 1981-82 Lakers Made only 13 3's the entire season,
They took the fewest attempts with a mere 94,
They shot a league low % with .138%
They were the worst free throw shooting team in the league
3rd fewest FT attempts???
Yet they were 2nd in the league in scoring
I guess I should mention the won the NBA Championship that season

I wasn't alive during this time, but I can guess that its safe to assume that although three point shooting was an option, it was probably a "last" option type of shot. Back in those days wasn't it about the big man's game?

The 3pt line was added to the NBA at the start of the 79-80 season, it was a gimmick, brought in to capture the former ABA fans who were used to it.
The 3's were mainly used as an end of game strategy to try to catch up if behind....end of game meaning last seconds not last minutes.
Coaches didn't like it nor the lower shooting percentages, in fact it took a really long time before it became a legitimate option for teams.........we can thank ESPN for that......and it is the 3pt line that has killed the Center position in the NBA.

Yeah see I figured that was likely the reason. Now in today's game, its either a dunk, or a 3 point shot. That mid range game has gone missing from most role players' to-do-list. I guess Kobe is the last of that generation. Whats the NBA going to be like in 5 years?

Ugh....in 5 years you may not see basketball players taller than 6' 9".....unless they can hit the 3 and run the floor.
As I fully expected, the league eliminated the center position from the all-star game. I had a ton of guys arguing with me the last 2 years when I said it.

MJ just under 50%, would have been higher if he didn't come back from retirement shooting 42 and 45% at Washington.
Magic shot 52% in his career, Bird shot 49.6%
Heck Lebron James is shooting 49% while Wade is shooting 48.6%
