Guns don't kill people; violent people kill people
Finally an article on wired.com that addresses this issue.
"To say violence is a sickness that threatens public health isn’t just a figure of speech, they argue. It spreads from person to person, a germ of an idea that causes changes in the brain, thriving in certain social conditions."
In that article, the author argues violence should be treated as a disease. Merely owning a gun does not equate to violent acts. It is a correlation very similar to playing videogames, listening to violent music, watching violent movies, etc.
Correlation does not equate to causation. A causation, for example, is when you drink alcohol and you know you will be drunk. Alcohol causes a person to be drunk; owning a gun does not cause a person to be violent.
Until a person can disprove the premise of, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" then I will cave in and accept the argument that owning a gun will lead to a person being more violent.
It is a fallacious argument based on correlation that has nothing to do with causation.
Re: Guns don't kill people; violent people kill people
In the last 10 days in my country two horrible accidents occured.
The first one retired soldier at the age of 55 killed his wife, mother in law, both sons and finally killed himself.
Two days ago very similar accident occured. Soldier working at an air base killed his wife, two daughters aged 3 and 8 and finally himself.
Gun control in my country is very ****ing strict. Its a ****ing nightmare to go through the paperwork and then an officer at your local police deparment must approve you. We are talking about a permit to buy a handgun.

you're totally right. i mean, before guns came along, people would simply point at each other across long distances, say the words "BANG, YOU'RE DEAD!," and the other person would be honor-bound to throw themselves off the nearest cliff or in the midst of a pack of hungry hyenas.
sadly, joe rogan combat skills never featured in that equation.

Yawn. If anything guns are boring. WHy shoot someone afar when you can stick them and watch them bleed out? The gun is the cowards weapon. If you really want to kill someone get close and personal, stick them with a blade and feel the farmth run along your hands.
Re: Guns don't kill people; violent people kill people
If violent people are getting these guns illegally, then where is the logic in taking away the guns from the people who are only using it to defend themselves from these violent people.

A person skilled with a samurai can easily take out 5 or more. Why not ban swords while we are at it.

People with emotional and mental problems lash out violently.
When they do so and guns are present, innocent people get shot.
If we regulate guns and do not let them get into the hands of mentally unstable people (or at least reduce the amount by some measure) then the amount of gun violence will most likely decline.
