There is something to be said for longevity and compiling. You seem to give no credit to it, either in season nor career. If it was so easy, everyone would do it.
Charlie Hustle was a damn good baseball player, and was the engine behind a dynasty in the 1970s.
Morgan, Bench, and Rose were all vital pieces to the Big Red Machine.
And Joe Morgan is not a top 15 player of all time.
I don't know if he is top 15 all time or not but he was insanely dominant in his prime. My first thought was Bench but I doubt Bench was as valuable as Morgan.
Smart man. That park is gigantic and that lineup is putrid. It's disappointing that he hasn't done more in his career thus far.
Seattle isn't as bad as you think. Olivo, Figgins and Ichiro are gone. Smoak won't be playing as much. Guti is healthy (so far). Ibanez and Morales can hit rhp. Zunino finished his first pro season in AA; he isn't far away. Seager looks everything like a core player for this team's future. If Ackley doesn't figure it out, they're going to have a second shot at it with Franklin.
This isn't 2010 or 2011. That lineup will be competitive. Don't believe me? All you have to do is look at the improvements Oakland made once they stopped handing a full season of PA's to Barton and Pennington.
There was a 3 team trade tonight between the Mariners, Nationals and A's:
Mariners get Michael Morse from the Nats
A's get John Jaso from the Mariners
Nationals get AJ Cole from the A's
AJ Cole was one of the prospects the A's acquired from the Nats for Gio Gonzalez, so now the Nats get him back, he was the 57th ranked prospect in baseball last year by Baseball America, but had a so-so year.
Mariners get Morse, who is a good hitter - but Jaso is very underrated.
At least the M's are trying hard to improve their lineup.
