Default Russell Wilson for ROY?

With RG3 and Luck getting more of the press, with a side of Martin/Morris...does Russell Wilson deserve it more? Just heard Ron Jaworski say he thinks so.

- 1 pass TD shy of tying Peyton's rookie TD record
- 10 win season, possible 11, and possible division champ
- wins over SF, NE, DAL, GB (questionable), MIN, CHI...all playoff teams or possible playoff teams

Opinions?

RG3 - 3100 passing yards, 20 touchdowns to 5 picks, 104 rating....750 rushing yards, 6 touchdowns.

Wilson - 2868 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, 10 picks, 98 rating.....431 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns.

Simply put, RG3 deserves it much more on an individual basis.

However, I believe RG3 has to make the playoffs for the voters to give him most if not all the votes. If he doesn't, it's going to be split 3 ways between Luck, RG3 & Wilson.

For a split to happen, votes have to be tied

I really hate that "wins" are viewed as a stat for QBs...most QBs would have 10 wins with the Seattle defense

Seattle does have a great defense and isn't expected to carry the team like RG3 or Luck but he's playing phenomenal. Great pocket presence for a rookie and knows how to avoid the blitz which for a rookie is surprising.

RG3 and Luck are expected to carry their teams more. One thing which may hurt RG3's case is how Cousins performed in his absence(he had like 2 victories) but he has the stats to back it. Luck doesn't have the stats to back his award but he probably has the biggest impact of the three, he basically is Indy's offense and he's been so ****ing clutch this year.

But I'd probably give it to Wilson, Seattle is playing like an elite team right now.

I'd give it to RG3 without a doubt. Dude has played like an All-Pro vet all season.

Wilson has been awesome, no doubt, but ROY is not a team award and RG3 has clearly been the better QB.

I meant in a general term, the votes would be split up and it would be a toss-up as to who would win.

Didn't mean they would all win the award in a 3 way tie.

True, but in this 6-1 stretch they're on he has 18 TD's to 3 turnovers. He's been just as important to their success as the D.

Hard to say "most" QBs would play that well.

I'll say this about Russell Wilson.

He is playing as good or better in a very similar role as Tom Brady in 2003 and 2004 and is far ahead of 2001 Brady.

Give the man his credit. Yes, he's playing behind a great defense and good coaching... but that's no different than a lot of "winning" quarterbacks.

Pete Carroll has established himself as one of the top talent evaluators/drafters in the NFL.

He is not afraid to make bold picks (Bruce Irvin, Russell Wilson) and almost all of his drafts have been stellar.

Here's some of his draft picks:

Russell Okung (Stud LT)
Earl Thomas (One of the best Safeties in the NFL)
Golden Tate (Developing into a good WR)
Kam Chancellor (5th round pick has turned into a great Safety)
Richard Sherman (Carroll took him in the 5th round, he's turned into an elite CB)
K.J. Wright (4th round pick has established himself as a solid LB)
Bruce Irvin (Insane Pass Rusher with insane speed)
Bobby Wagner (Already a stud ILB)
Russell Wilson ('Nuff Said)
Robert Turbin (Very nice RB)

Carroll also brought in Brandon Browner, who has turned into a top corner.

His only questionable pick has been James Carpenter, but he's been plagued with injuries and there's still hope he could be the RG/RT of the future.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Wilson get ROY, but if the Redskins make the playoffs then it's RGIII's award no doubt.

I don't think he gets the credit because he isn't the brand name like Luck or RG3 but he's playing the best out of the three imo(I think luck will end up the best of the bunch though) What hasn't Wilson done that RG3 hasn't? Shannan has implemented a system for RG3 to succeed just like Wilson and I think Wilson has played better. Seattle has the better team but they have been by far more dominant than Washington this season.

Going back to Wilson he's pretty damn good. His ability to avoid the pass rush is great, he has a live arm, athletic and he doesn't turn the ball over. He's practically a veteran QB out there and as crazy as it sounds he kinda looks like Joe Montana out there.. He's far more deserving than the other guys but I can see RG3 getting it as he's the more popular player.

He also brought in Skittles who has become an elite RB and signed Baldwin as an undrafted rookie FA who is decent. Must have some good college connections

The Jags could've taken Wilson in the 3rd. Instead they took a punter.

Why would Wilson win this award over RGIII? I dont see it.

Carbine showed the stats. How has Wilson played better exactly? You say he looks like Joe Montana out there yet RGIII has more passing yards, less interceptions and a higher completion %. You claim he has played better but RGIII also has rushed for more yards/tds than Wilson. And get this? He's done all of this in 1 less game than Wilson. Yet somehow Wilson is playing better?

Smells like a classic case of people siding with the underdog. People like the guy who goes unnoticed, no hype, press or attention.

Any answer other than RG3 is wrong. He has the stats, the wins, he hasn't had 1 bad game all season long, and he doesn't have a monster defense to lean on like Wilson. Our defense sucks (it's ranked #28...). Wilson should have been getting more recognition all along, but let's not break out the overwhelming sympathy and gift him ROY. He'll be just fine knowing that he's already in the playoffs.

But knowing my luck, he'll have a bad game against the Cowboys and we'll lose
