He didnt deserve to get canned.. he had a bad month ofdec3mber but he was coach of the month in november.. nets sound like they are turning into a circus
When Jackson takes over the Nets, and within two weeks they are widely considered the second best team in the East and a championship contender, I wonder what people will think of what happened in Los Angeles in the 00s.
He'll have that group oiled up and clicking REAL fast. Watch. Avery Johnson is not a bad coach, but he's not a good coach either. Deron Williams needs to be put in his place by a coach, but there are only 2 coaches in the NBA with the authority and the ability to do that, and the other one is in San Antonio.
This guy can't coach in the NBA, listening to an interview with him is hard enough, think about listening to this guy for hours every damn day during the season.
He has a voice and demeanor that makes you want to punch him.

regardless of the reality of your vision, you bring up an interesting question i hadn't really thought about before--
how is it that jackson's first lakers team was able to thrive in the triangle so quickly? i mean, from what i've read, the triangle is apparently one of the most difficult offensive systems of all to learn, and yet that group kind of hit the ground running in the space of, what? ...a single pre-season training camp?
then in the playoffs, you had a team that got totally dominated by the spurs the year before to one which went all the way, walloping the reggie millers in the finals.
so, other than the fact that the refs stole the sacramento kings blind in that one western series against the lakers, the boys in purple and gold were suddenly the class of the NBA for the next five years.
my point is, isn't it kind of wild how quickly that all happened?
Actually JVG is a good option too, he prefers taking over a team in summer rather than at this point. But seriously, the Nets have easy schedule coming up so any coach can hope to snatch a few wins to establish authority.
NEW YORK (AP) — Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said Friday he decided to fire Avery Johnson last week but now wants patience with interim coach P.J. Carlesimo.
A day after dismissing Johnson after 28 games, Prokhorov said he won't rush into a coaching search, insisting he wants Carlesimo to have a chance to lead the Nets out of their slump.
TWEET'S SAKE: Jazz punish staffer for Nets dis
The Russian billionaire cut short a vacation to British Columbia to travel to New York, where he plans to meet Saturday with Carlesimo. But even with big names such as Phil Jackson potentially available and Prokhorov vowing to spend whatever it takes to build a championship team, he said repeatedly that Carlesimo was the head coach.
Prokhorov did say that if the Nets do look for a new coach, he would be personally involved. He wouldn't discuss anyone by name, even joking he had never heard of Jackson, the 11-time champion coach.
"Now P.J. is the head coach and if it becomes necessary, you know who the usual suspects are," Prokhorov told news reporters at halftime of the Nets' game Friday, which they won 97-81 against the Charlotte Bobcats.
GAME: Brook Lopez goes off for Nets
Johnson led the Nets to an 11-4 start, winning Eastern Conference coach of the month honors for November. But they were 3-10 in December under Johnson, had been blown out of their last two games and, Prokhorov said, were lacking team spirit.
Still, deciding Johnson would be fired last week means Prokhorov had made up his mind even before the lackluster Christmas performance at home against Boston that preceded a rout Wednesday in Milwaukee.
"I think we have very talented players but they are capable of much more than what we have seen in the recent weeks," Prokhorov said. "I respect Avery and really I wish him well, but sometimes chemistry just isn't right. It happens.
"I think the main question is why we were unable to bounce back and to play like champions."
WIN NOW: Nets' next full-time coach has big expectations
Prokhorov added around $300 million in payroll this summer and has set the expectations high, saying he believes the Nets can reach the Eastern Conference finals. Though it's believed he wouldn't back away from paying top dollar for a coach, he left open the possibility that he may already have the guy he wants.
"P.J. is the head coach and just I think we have a lot of trust in him and really I want him to lead the team," Prokhorov said.
Looks like its been pre-determined, just need a perfect time to pull the trigger lol.
Is anyone questioning Avery's ability to be a good coach, just because this is the second time he's been fired? I have no doubts at all, but Bruce Bowen seemed to disagree in his podcast.
How many times has Larry Brown been fired? However, his capacity to be a head coach is never questioned, just based on how many teams have let him go.
Bowen started out pretty well with his podcast, but now its becoming annoying how many times he references Popovich and the Spurs. Sometimes he doesn't even talk about the team he's asked about -- its all about the Spurs, and how they do things.

Well its not about how many times a coach is fired, its about the overall performance. You can have a bad season and get fired, it happens from time to time. The problem with Avery Johnson is that hes been with the Nets for more than 2 seasons and has basically done nothing. Before getting dismissed in Charlotte Larry Brown actually took the team to their franchise's first playoffs appearance. Thats the difference between the two.
