Those Carter/Kidd/Jefferson Nets teams + Tyson Chandler
I was just thinking how good some of those Nets teams would have been if they had Tyson Chandler as their starting center. Kidd/Chandler go really well together obviously. They won a championship together in Dallas and are playing very well in New York. What would prime Kidd & current Tyson Chandler look like?
Would this Nets team have been capable of winning a championship?
C: Tyson Chandler
PF: Nenad Krstic
SF: Richard Jefferson
SG: Vince Carter
PG: Jason Kidd

My favorite team to watch of all time. That team was the original Lob City. AS much as I love that team, I don't think Chandler would have been able to handle Shaq the 2 years we faced the Heat in the playoffs. And prime D-Wade was running us off the court. The bench was also pretty bad compared to the vets the Heat had (Walker, Payton, Posey, J-Will). We had a 38 year old Cliff Robinson, Jeff McInnis, Boki Nachbar, and Jaque Vaughn off the bench. *Shrudders*

A team like that would definitely win at least one title during the mid to late 2000s. Maybe Kidd or Carter would still be in the Nets organization playing at Barclays Center. Yet at the same time Chandler back then wasn't the same Chandler we see today.

I respectfully disagree. As MTing mentioned, I believe the Nets' terrible bench still would have wreaked havoc on any possible big time success.
Still, those mid-'00's Nets were one of my all-time favorite teams to watch, with their shortcomings and all.

Vince Carter was not a guy who ran the floor on the break like that. He would do some lobs tho. Give me Martin over Jefferson (will never ever ever ever understand that decision) and we got something.

True. He wasn't Chandler, but he definitely gave the Nets something worthwhile. I actually mentioned him in my original post, then deleted it because I didn't think it fit. I like what Krstic contributed in his time with the Nets. Reliable mid-range game (solid shooter all around actually) and not a great defender or rebounder, but serviceable.
Re: Those Carter/Kidd/Jefferson Nets teams + Tyson Chandler
Better to go with the slightly earlier Nets teams:
Kidd
Kittles
RJ
Kmart
Big Mac / Deke / committee
True, no VC, but it was a better-built team than any of the VC teams. This was just before Kittle's and Kmart's bodies fell apart. Throw today's Chandler in to the big man rotation and it would probably have pushed them over the top against the Spurs, and who knows against the Lakers. At least would have won them a couple games, if not turned the series.
Re: Those Carter/Kidd/Jefferson Nets teams + Tyson Chandler
no..absolutley not capable
(current)Kidd and Chandler are great complementary players....and your team is generally going to play better with them but when Dallas needed offense that year....they got it from unconscious JET and peak Dirk
half court set....Jet Dirk destroyed the other team
Nets teams NEVER had a guy who just put the team on his back and carried the offense in fact....during that double ECF wining run....rodney rogers, lucious harris, kittles, van horn ALL came up small when it really counted
and defensively...combo of deke and kmart gave you most of what tyson brings...

The nets lost 2-4 to the Spurs in 2003, it was much closer than anyone of you might think. The loss of Martin and Kittles is huge though, but adding Tyson Chandler and Vince Carter may as well replace that. Dont see it as a huge upgrade, so the chance is about the same as they actually did in 2003.

You don't see prime VC and Tyson Chandler as a huge upgrade to Kittles and Martin? Really?!?

no way. kittles and kmart were playing at the absolute peak on both ends of the floor, making good things happen all over the place and fitting in superbly with the program.
vince never did fit in to the nets champion running games, which immediately took away some of the huge impact that kidd made in 02 and 03. he just wasn't that great of a fit for the nets.
