Interesting to see that the all-time head-to-head is so close, though GP has the edge.

I don't remember how often they guarded each other or for how long a stretch during games, but the numbers seem to indicate they played each other fairly even before GP got old. In fact, GP has the advantage.
If you look at the numbers, it wasn't uncommon for Kobe to shoot below .429 against Payton teams. So i don't know that Kobe was making GP look "foolish" very often.

Payton was lost all day. He didn't know where Kobe was. The off the ball play by Kobe was fantastic that game.
