Calling Arkansas a dumpster fire this year would be generous. The coaching staff was incompetent (again, that's being generous), there was injuries and suspensions to key players on offense like Chris Gragg (TE who came into the season considered by some as the best senior TE in the country), and a couple other receivers. By about the 4th game of the season it got to the point where he had Cobi Hamilton, two or three freshmen WR's, and his running back to throw to. On top of that, his offensive line was horrible. He got knocked out of the UL-Monroe game with a concussion and missed the Alabama game. He came back and continued to take a lot of beatings.
Not saying he's worth a top 10 or even first round pick or anything, but I think he got lost in the mess of Arkansas's mess of a season.
Re: Who do the Chiefs pick: Matt Barkley or Geno Smith?
If the Chiefs have the top pick just select a QB and get it over with. No reason to delay the inevitable and the Chiefs will continue to suck for the next decade unless they get their answer at QB.
Mock drafts and other college prospect evaluations are overrated as well. Rodgers was considered to be a late pick, Cam was considered to be a huge risk at #1, Brees unnoticed, etc. Pick Barkley and make him your guy, the Chiefs haven't had a franchise QB in forever. You either have a QB or you're constantly trying to find one. These stop gaps that the Chiefs have been using over the past decade is horrendous.

Exactly waiting years for your QB is a horrible idea, stars can be found in any round, Romo wasn't even drafted.
This might be a better draft for them to grab a QB in the 2nd or 3rd though...but holding out a whole year shouldn't be seen as an option.

We're talking as the top pick in the draft though. None of the qb's coming out are can't miss guys like RG3 and Luck so you try to trade down, if you can and if not I'd go with the top guy overall like a Jarvis Jones or someone else rated higher than these qb's and pick one, as you stated in the 2nd or 3rd round. No sense wasting a top 5 pick on one unless he blows you away in the workouts and interviews.
Re: Who do the Chiefs pick: Matt Barkley or Geno Smith?
Barkley might be a mid to late first round prospect at this time, but I can promise that he will rise to a possible top 5 pick when the draft rolls around.

I understand that but QB's always go top 5 whether they're a risky or sexy pick. It's pretty much common nowadays.
In 2009 Bradford was supposed to be the unanimous #1 pick but he didn't declare and Stafford who was selected #1 was considered to be a risky pick.. It seems that this happens every year where a QB is considered to be a reach but he instead exceeds expectations.
If the Chiefs can trade down and still select Barkley or who ever the top QB is more power to them.
Re: Who do the Chiefs pick: Matt Barkley or Geno Smith?
Actually with all things considering with the Niners and the history of the Chiefs, i'm gonna call this right now: Alex Smith will be a Chief next year!
