Re: Rondo for Westbrook still the best straight up trade in the league.
The Celtics need rebounding more than anything, not scoring. Plus it's never been shown that the way to win a Championship is by having your pg take over 20 shots every game. Why is it better to have a pg that scores himself than it is to have a pg that sets up others?
The real reason OKC is elite is KD. And if OKC is willing to give him up they can have Rondo and anyone else for that matter. But we've seen AI's Sixers, Francis' Rockets and Marbury in general. It's a formula for respectability if you have a stout d but it's hard for a smallish perimeter player to score at a high level efficiently. It's not just about the PG's points. A great example is Kendrick Perkins. Is he offensively impotent? No doubt. But with Rondo he was able to average 10 points at peak. Now that he's got a scorin point he hovers around 5.
The absolute best offensive pgs are the guys that can score a ton when needed but play as smart pass-first floor generals most of the time. Neither player is a master of both traits but we've seen Rondo put up points in the post-season and have some magnificent series. How often do we see Westbrook setting everyone up? Westbrook may be a better overall player but if he is it's how AI was, as a shooting guard. Not as a pg.

Westbrook is better so why should the Thunder downgrade?
He is not such a bad shooter. Free throws and threes yes but he has improved his midrange jumpshot and I think his FG% is much higher than Westbrook's. Plus I'd be willing to bet he doesnt turn the ball over nearly as much. Okc with Rondo would be much different and I dont think its fair to say that they need Westbrook's scoring because if they had Rondo they could very well get more out of the players they already have.
Re: Rondo for Westbrook still the best straight up trade in the league.
People that suggest this trade are dumb. Let's see how many assists Rondo will be able to rack up passing to Kendrick Perkins and Thabo Sefalosha. Hell, even with Ibaka's improvement he still struggles to catch the ball. Westbrook would have way more assists if he had Ray Allen, Pierce, KG etc. to pass the ball to, instead of just one steady scorer in Durant.
Before people go of into a rant about how Westbrook has the scoring champ on his team, KD is usually locked up and double teamed and not open. This leaves westbrook an option to pass the ball to Ibaka in traffic, Kendrick Perkins, or Thabo sefalosha or just shoot the ball himself. Rondo would have the same kind of issues here in OKC only wouldn't be able to score like Westbrook.
