Shi Davidi tweeted that we're close to signing a free-agent second baseman. One rival exec thinks it's Maicer Izturis according to Ken Rosenthal. It will be finalized in the next few days...

As a stopgap solution for 1 year, I'd be fine with Izturis.

We signed Izturis for 3yrs. 9 million with a club option. The length of the deal makes me wonder that this could be a precursor to another deal.

Jays also acquired Jeremy Jeffress from Royals for cash. Big arm, bullpen only, can't control his stuff. One more positive ban (marijuana) away from a lifetime suspension...

3 years at 3 Mill is totally fine. Doesn't hold Toronto back from calling up Hech whenever they feel he's ready from AAA this year, it's good value.... they're essentially getting Marco Scutaro 6 years younger for about half of what it would have taken to get Marco Scutaro today.

Plus, he's OK coming off the bench/being a utility guy so there's no issues there.

It's a fine deal to me.

Now that he's on the 40 man roster, the lifetime ban doesn't apply. Got him for cash so there's no downside to that move. posted a 3.88 BB/9 last year in AAA. in 53 IP. Maybe he started to figure it out?

Ye I read that later. For recreational drugs you cannot get suspended if you're on the 40-man roster...

Totally agree. I'm fine with him being the regular 2B next year. I'm not a believer in Hech's bat for now.

I also think the Jays wanted to get this settled early in the offseason so that's why he got maybe one more year than any other team would've given him. The holes in LF and DH should be easier to fill than 2B.

I don't think he'll come at a good price range, but I was looking over and I saw that Adam Laroche is a FA. I wouldn't be totally oppose to him signing a 2-3 year deal. But with his good year last year (he tailed off after a hot start), I'm sure he's going to get a good contract from somewhere. At age 33, he's probably looking for one last big contract.

If we got him around 3 yr 36ish range, that'd be decent. Not the ideal candidate, but still way better than Lind...

rumor has the jays budget at 95 million this year.
Currently they will have commitments at 81 million. That only leaves 14 (though AA could shed some if need be) for fa's. I expect the bulk to go to a starting pitcher.

Jays on the verge of acquiring Josh Johnson & Mark Buerhle... some reports say Jose Reyes may also be included in the deal. Right now, going from Toronto is Hech and Escobar...

I am 100% down for getting Jose Reyes. Meh on Buehrle but I assume the Jays are required to take his contract to "even" out the deal. Josh Johnson rocks but is scary with injuries and only 1 year left right?
