This was supposed to be your time to shine, Hasheem. In front of a national TV audience, you’d thrown down a mini-Mozgov over Elton Brand on a two-game Thursday, all but assuring that you, Hasheem Thabit Manka Thabeet, would secure your first ever Poster of the Day. In LaLa land, Jared Sullinger had your back. All you had to do was avoid getting mashed on harder than you yourself had mashed on Elton Brand.

Terrence Ross has regularly been wowing us with his athleticism for weeks now, and just last night he threw down one of the nastiest poster dunks of the season. Unfortunately, it didn’t count. Just before the would-be victim, Jason Smith, could jump to contest the jam, Amir Johnson held his arm. The foul was subtle, but the officials caught it and a whistle was blown, negating the dunk and wiping two Raptor points off the board. It’s a shame that Johnson felt the need to impede Smith’s progress — it’s not like Smith was about to do anything but get destroyed — but it is what it is, and I’m forced to award this POTD to Tayshaun Prince.
Too bad Melo’s affinity for dunking disappeared around the same time his cornrows did. Though he was never a high flyer, Melo used to posterize people on a regular basis. What happened? He’s only 28.

From the Memphis Commercial Appeal: There was Haddadi, helping Quincy Pondexter off the floor after the guard suffered an MCL sprain with three seconds left in the third quarter. And he wasn’t just helping him — he was carrying him. And then, a few moments later, the Forum got as loud as I’ve ever heard it when Haddadi, inserted into the lineup to start the fourth quarter, posterized Kenneth Faried with a massive dunk.
The reserves’ energy and spark helped pave the way for Rudy Gay and Co. to take care of the Nuggets in the final moments, as I wrote in last night’s live coverage.
So basically, according to this accredited account, Hamed Haddadi played hero with his momentous slam dunk in the Grizzlies’ 81-72 victory over the Nuggets. Sorry, Iggy, but you’re going to have to settle for an honorable mention.
