true, none of those guys had 2k yards on 6+ YPC though...facing 9 in the box because of no passing game
Davis had Elway
Faulk had Warner and the best passing game in NFL history
Tomlinson had Rivers who was a ProBowler that year
Alexander had Hasslebeck who was also a Probowler the year he won
AD has Ponder...
Ponder threw for 131 yards yesterday lol...Peterson rushed for more yards than Ponder threw yesterday
He missed 4 games last year but the fact that Peyton did miss an entire year does give him the edge I think
Yea but those weren't due to the ACL. Those were nagging injuries and having him in our out of the lineup didn't matter last year since the Vikes were awful.
I say Peterson MVP and Peyton easily wins comeback player of the year.
What Peterson is doing just after a year after suffering his injury, is off the charts. But, many people regarding Peyton (on this forum especially) said he'd never play again and if he did, he would never be the same. He can't throw. He can't take a hit. Yadda yadda yadda
Carbine what Peterson did other years is irrelevant to this year.
Those other RBs must have lost out to someone more deserving, or were on bad teams.
It's relevant because Peterson is the same guy he was back when Favre when playing with them and he didn't put up great numbers. So there is literally no evidence to suggest any correlation between bad quarterbacks hampering great RB's or vice versa.
You could compare it to Sanders in 1997, where he shared the award, but he also had much less competition (nobody really outside of Favre).
Maybe 2005, where Alexander won the award over Manning, but the Seahawks still were 13-3.
But then there's 2003, which seems a bit odd. Priest Holmes put up the numbers and was on a 13-3 team, but lost out to McNair and Manning, while both had worse records.
I don't think Faulk had the top competition in 2000, so he stood out.
Davis won in 1998 against some really steep competition. I guess Cunningham and Young were 'punished' for having 2 topnotch WRs to throw to and a pro bowl RB.
I think the voting changed in 1997. I'm not sure about the 1993 season. You could make a case for Young (too many ints?), Rice (WRs don't win), and maybe Elway (9-7 record) over Emmitt.
He had Favre (and Rice & Harvin) and probably had the worst (though still good) year of his career.
Chris Johnson '10 had Vince Young and Collins.
Jamal Lewis ran for 2000+ yards with Boller and some other scrub QB.
Earl Campbell dominated with horrible QB's.
Eric Dickerson did the same.
Jones Drew had a great year last year with terrible QB's.
Numerous other examples as well.
AP is averaging more YPC than Ponder is YPA.....that's UNHEARD of.
Anyways, the DMVP "race" is over. Watt basically could do absolutely nothing the next 2 weeks and win it. He just DESTROYED the Colts this past Sunday. Hopefully he breaks the sack record in 2 weeks as well if not next week.
It's relevant because Peterson is the same guy he was back when Favre when playing with them and he didn't put up great numbers. So there is literally no evidence to suggest any correlation between bad quarterbacks hampering great RB's or vice versa.
Do you even fcking watch football?
Are you aware the Rams had 9 in the box all last game because they have no fear of Ponder? Basically just glued the safties to AD, because of Ponder.
