The Suns need another wingman who can create his own offense. Diaw isn't that guy, and since Nash is the only Sun who can create his own offense, that puts him under too much pressue to do EVERYTHING come crunch time. At least that was the case last year. With Amare, things are a bit different this year. But last year, JJ's scoring would have been a huge lift in the playoffs.
sure, although I do think Barbosa is pretty solid. But without Diaw (esp. before TThomas) whats that frontcourt look like? James Jones at the 3, Marion full time at the 4, and PBurke/BGrant at the 5? I guess they couldve kept thsilvitz (sp) as well
They would have been destroyed up front
the suns are better off without him and with diaw. Where would they have been last year without diaw's positional versatility and the injuries to Stat and KT?
Even after they picked up thomas they wouldve been brutalized in the frontcourt without diaw. Can you imagine patty Burke starting?
They are a much better team with Diaw, better passer (at least out of the post and so forth) and does all teh littl ethings PHX needs not more points.
they might have been better off last year with diaw, but im sure they would rather have Joe Johnson now.
With Joe Johnson they would have 4 All-Stars on the team, not like the fake Piston's All Stars but legit ones. That would have been almost unguardable.
But if Jor Johnson stayed there he knew that Nash would get credit for his development.

perhaps, but I dont think he would be averaging anywhere near what he is in ATL. You already have Marion (not an allstar lock by the way, although I think he deserves it) complaining about not enough offense being called for him. At best, JJ would be taking up much of bell's mins and prob. not significantly more productive. I could be wrong.

Barbosa can be inconsistent and a bit OC at times. A great role player, but not a go to guy like JJ is.
I don't blame Joe Johnson for leaving PHX for the money and a starring role. Had he put up those monsters numbers in PHX, Steve Nash would get credit. That's how it is in PHX. Nash gets credit for Shawn Marion's play, and the funny thing is, Shawn Marion has been 19 and 9 for his career.
Back to the the topic. The Hawks can get right again in the East though. The East is up for grabs and if they get a competent GM, the ownership situation in check, and some quality pieces around Joe Johnson and Josh Smith, they can contend. I see it happening.

the hawks will never succeed in the east (anytime soon). They are years behind the entire central and the handful of other good teams in the east (WIZ, NJN, MIA, even ORL). I see the knicks being successful first.
Joe Johnson did not leave the suns for the MONEY....he left because he wanted a starring role and because of how sarver handled the contract negotiaons
Why are all these 'fans' saying money played a role in his relocation? It meant absolutely nothing. PHX was going to match the offer sheet he got from the Hawks, but he told the Suns not to, so they opted to broker the sign and trade.
He would be drawing the exact same paychecks in Phoenix. He just wanted to be the man. Stupid. He could have been a max player on the best team in the L.
The Suns could really use both JJ and Diaw. They're getting better at getting decent shots when they need to run isolations, but having Joe Johnson would make that much easier, and Diaw would slot in nicely at 6th/7th man with Barbosa.
They'd need to move to New York City to carry all those salaries, of course.

Yeah, with Steve Nash getting top billing, which he wanted as well. If Shawn Marion and man-beast Amare couldn't get that top billing pub, what makes you think JJ would get it?
a lot of you say it isn't about money, but i think that's part of it. the other part about more playing time is part of it as well. but the Hawks?
people say he wanted a starring role. well now he got it. for the Hawks. good luck with that. you just went from a championship caliber team to a team that is in or near the lottery selection every year.
So we know it's not about a championship with this guy. Well have a good career on a team that will never sniff the playoffs.
