Default Suns: Current Likes/Dislikes?

what's up everyone! I know its been a minute but... thought I'd see if anyone is interested in talking about what they do/don't like about the Suns current roster, moves, potential, direction, etc. seems like they have been a team in transition for a while now and management all but refused to admit to the "rebuilding" tag, as I recently read, they are calling this off seasons maneuvering "rebooting"

just as a quick reminder gone is Childress, Hill, Lopez, Nash, Price, Redd, and Warrick. with the newcomers being Beasley, Dragic, Dyson, Johnson, Marshall, Miller, Scola, and Tucker. personally I am thrilled that the Suns finally let the vets go, giving them the opportunity to win in their final years, and seemingly have now embraced the youth movement! maybe they waited a little to long, but hey, better late then never!

for the deletions Childress was never used correctly, nor did he ever seem to get the mins to try and fit within the system. Hill is a loss, as is Nash (that will hurt). Lopez was all but a bust from day one, Price never really seen the mins required to contribute much like J-Chill. Redd, I thought contributed very solidly and wouldn't mind seeing back! Warrick, man another in a laundry list of players lost in the rotation.

for the additions Beasley, I think if he can focus and get is mind right will prove to be a steal! but, it all depends on his mental state, does he want to finally play ball? or does he want to smoke his way right out of the league? Dragic is maybe the best PG to take over with Nash's departure, being he learned from and played behind him in the past. and, having been in the tutoring role I think Dragic will now be able to mentor Marshall and help groom him for the time his opportunity arises! speaking of Marshall, I think the Suns really hit a home run with their selection, they got maybe the purest PG in the Draft and thats a BIG plus for them moving forward, post Nash. Dyson, I keep hearing is most likely going to be let go (I think his contract is non guaranteed?) likewise rumors are that Miller will retire.

continuing on Johnson, I feel was a very solid pick up! he's young, athletic, and will compete! Scola to me might have been the best pick up they got, being they finally have two guys down low that want to bang and will get after the boards! its a new day in the valley of the sun! plus Scola is gifted offensively! Suns need a post threat, and possibly he can rub off on Gortat! as for Tucker, I am not very aware of him or what he will bring to the table, I read he's got defense and the Suns really liked him for a few years now, but if anyone else has some feedback on him, I would be interested to read it!

anyways... I'll open this up and allow others to chimp in, please feel free as all questions, comments, concerns, ideas, thoughts, etc. are welcome!

so far im liking the moves by the Suns.

Players kept :
Gortat (+)
Dudley (+)
Frye (=)
Brown (+)
Morris (+)

Moves:
Dragic to replace Nash
Beasley to replace Hill
Scola to replace Warrick
Johnson to replace Redd
Miller to replace Lopez

Rook : Marshall

Beasley and Johnson are young and packed with potential, but they haven't live up to their expectations as of recent seasons. im just hoping either one of them will break out.

Scola imo will be the biggest impact on this Suns team.
Giving Gortat help in the paint.
Giving Frye a run for his minutes, will see how this impact Frye.
Having played with Dragic the past season, will give Dragic a familiar option and good start coming back to PHX.

Hill would have been an excellent mentor to Beasley.

Redd would have been a solid contributor off the bench.

I regret the Hornets matching the offer to Gordon though. he would have change the team's concept much if we would have gotten him. though pretty much everyone expect Hornets to match it's still disappointing.

I was hoping for Jeremy Lamb to be available at 13. Marshall is a good pick up nonetheless.

tbh, I'm counting alot on Dragic. i believe he will be the face of the Suns for a long time to come.

Overall post season : A-

I really like the team and everything and I hope we fail horrendously in terms of our record this year.

Another 13th pick will do nothing really for this team outside of depth. Our cap space next year isn't anything spectacular (correct me if I'm wrong).

If you take this teams core and throw in a superstar that's a real title contender and the team is in a position I like. But if that will happen remains to be the question. To be frank I don't think that Eric Gordon would be the "cornerstone" first option. I think he'd be a great second option, though.

This teams success down the road will rely on the development of Marshall. He really needs to improve his ability to score and be a threat offensively otherwise he'll be too easy for teams to contain. I hope he's putting in a lot of work.

Also there is a lack of big man depth.

Great observation! I as well feel that both Beasley and Johnson got more to offer then they've showed in the past! Seems if someone is going to have a standout year, this is the team to do it on... Then again PHX always had Steve Nash running the offense, lol! Likewise I agree, Scola might be the biggest pick up the Suns made all offseason! His ability to help and take pressure off Gortat will be priceless!

WOW! Kinda shocked your hoping the Suns do so poorly this season. The idea is to win games, not tank for draft position, haha! The Suns have a ton of picks as it is, I'm sure they can package a few and move up in the draft thus getting a poor record to me is not the best option to explore. Lack of depth in the BIG man dept. seems to be the Suns calling card lol! But, I do like the Gortat/Frye, Scola/Morris rotation.

I hope they do well.. but I find myself conflicted.. like Maniak says, I hope they to awful so we can get a high draft pick. A high draft pick with some of our other picks could get us a really good player.. but I guess that depends on who is coming out this year also.

Man you too? I would think as fans you'd want to see your team do the best they possibly can, try to win, and put up a great effort competing! Kinda seems like the opposite is the theme up in here, haha! The roster the Suns have assembled will not be that bad, they got potential! I mean as fans, do you want to suffer thru a bad season with losses mounting up and no light at the end of the tunnel? (see Charlotte)

this team got potential yeah, but u can't break out to the top without a superstar in this superstar oriented league.

which Suns fan doesn't want their team winning. but we been hovering around 6 to like 10th seed for too many seasons now. and this current team is potentially good, but prolly not going to reach anywhere above a 6th seed in the west. tanking might not guarantee us anything, but at least better than getting that 13 14 15 pick every season going nowhere.

This current lineup
Gortat Dragic and I say Beasley, though upgradeable, but not in any way our primary concern now.

if we can get a top pick along with the capability to sign a big name player to fill the SG and PF spots, which imo had not been addressed since we lost Jrich and Amare, then put those 2 with this current core along with a neat bench in Dudley, Brown, Marshall (hopefully), Scola (no saying how many productive seasons he can deliver) and the stretch center Frye. We could be looking at an even more potentially good team going post Nash era. and as good as they might be there are the Lakers and Thunder to beat to even get back to the wcf. I believe that alone is a good reason for Suns fans to wanna tank this season.

Likes: The Suns office replaces an aging PG and SF with a young PG and young SF. Scola was a huge pickup since we were weak at the PF. Wesley Johnson might be solid playing with the Suns. Warrick, Childress, and Lopez are all gone so the team is now better with those moves. Suns got lots of pick and still a decent amount of cap space. It's been a great offseason for the Suns front office. Only thing is that the Suns need a back up center.

Dislikes: Can't think of many dislikes. These moves made the Suns an exciting and decent team. Most Suns fans were worried if Nash was staying or not. I miss Nash but it's time to move on. I wish we signed Redd to be the 13th or 14th man on the team. I wished the Suns would try to make a move up during the NBA draft. I was mad that Houston took Lamb.

Overall: Looks like it's going to be a great season!
