If they amnesty Jefferson, they still have to pay him his money. So this trade saves SA money.
Excellent trade for the Spurs. Stephen Jackson is a gamble, but if he is motivated he can defend a lot better than Jefferson, he can make plays and he can spot up. He can bring the same type of versatility Ginobili brings. If he plays as well as he can play, he greatly increases the ability of this team.
And even if Jackson decides to keep on sucking and acting out, it's not like players such as Duncan/Parker/Ginobili are going to put up with Jackson's bullshit and let it become a distraction.

this is the best situation he's been in since, save for maybe that 07 golden state team.
dude's gonna thrive.
Exactly. He isn't going to get a better chance than this ever again, so he should be going all out when he steps on the court. Can't wait for his debut!

When will that be? I wish he could play against the Thunder tomorrow

I'm looking at salary cap, not money.
But the more I look at it, the more I agree. Duncan will take less and Jackson will be a nice piece. If he acts out again he'll get benched and bought out. And it's only one year. They'll have room in the salary cap anyway, especially if they amnesty Bonner instead...which they may as well now, he has years left on his contract.
Re: 2012 Trade Deadline Deal: GS trade SJax To Spurs for Richard Jefferson + 1st
This trade is so good for SA on so many levels. Even though they have to give up a late first-rounder (we know what the spurs can do with these), the window for a championship has been closed for about 3 or 4 years. Why not give one final push for a Duncan era chip and hope for that window to crack? Especially with Parker playing so well this season.
Even though RJ did better this year, he still was only a spot-up shooter who couldn't create much on his own (aka Vince Carter-lite). My only concern w/ cap Jack is if he can get into game shape quick enough for the playoffs. People forget, in the playoff run w/ him and Turk, Jack was the go-to guy for clutch shots in many games. Spurs are desperate to have this again. Well done Spurs, well done

this is a steal for the spurs!
they get rid of jefferson who has been playing absolutely terrible lately and he doesnt show up in the playoffs. doesnt drive to the basket like he used to and settles for 3's in his old age now. we got a proven CHAMPION back who knows the spurs system. what more could you ask for?? a backup pg to

Rockets might offer Fisher a buyout. Wouldn't mind having him as backup pg. We could give him a spot like we did to Horry
