They offered Chandler 20 M for one year to keep some flexibility this summer. I don't think that a amnestied Haywood would have made a difference.

True, but it makes no sense since they NEEDED Chandler in the long run. They should've offered him a longer contract.

Cuban wants to try and sign a big name free agent next year, so he didn't want to give guys like Barea, Chandler or Butler long term contracts, so he could have some flexibility money wise for the next free agent class..

Then the question should be: why did Dallas want to keep some flexibility, in stead of signing Chandler (and Butler and Barea) long term?

I guess the answer to that question is found somewhere between Orlando and Newark.

Cuban wants to put out a winning team every year and he´s in the (un)fortunate situation, that he has a player that he cannot trade EVER.

Just like Duncan in San Antonio, they´ll put a statue in front of their stadium once Dirk retires. So he has to rebuild his team into a contender, while maintaining a salary that Dirk won´t be worth in a few years. Yes the pieces Chandler, Barea and Stevenson fit perfectly, and it was a huge mistake imho to pay Carter the 2.5 million instead of Stevenson. BUT

You cannot forget that Dallas was 2-7 against mediocre opposition, when Dirk went down, so they need to gradually change Dirk´s role into a 2nd/3rd option closer role to prolong his career and remain competitive. They´ll simply need a new younger franchise player for that. Can´t get him without creating capspace.

Your grammar is incorrect.

"Why Mavs did have not amnestied Haywood?" is the correct way.

Pretty much hit all the points. Short answer is they like to be competitive for Dirk and at the same time get ready for an offseason that'll prolong Dirk's career as a Mav.

They though Haywood could at least stay in games and occupy space.. unfortunately they were wrong.

Like to see them against a regular team see how that small and slow ball works.
