Duncan is the only player I have ever seen to slow down Prime shaq. He defended shaq better than anyone. The reason the spurs won the title in 03 was solely because of Duncan being able to contain shaq. Duncan is the better defender because he could anchor your defense.

Few prime years are cut off for both KG and TD, while includes majority of primes for both players, so what you said has no influence for data in question.

Hard to tell.
Duncan achored the whole Spurs defense in their title runs.
But KG changed the whole Boston Celtics team and pretty much revived Boston Basketball, past his prime!
Duncan is the better shot blocker and interior defender, while Kevin Garnett is the more versatile defender.
I like Garnett better.

It does not include Duncan's MVP (02-03 year). Taken from the article:

1) Ilardi’s 6 Year Adjusted +/- from ’03-04 to ’08-09.

Don't know how you can claim that 5 of Duncan's best years (98-03) which include 2 rings and 2 MVPs are not important.

KG has more versatility because of his huge advantage in athleticism. Duncan was more dominant and much better at defending opposing bigs. Anyone that disagrees, watch 2003 Tim Duncan. He was on another level. That's how dominant he was. As good as KG was, he never dominated defensively.

duncan because he was a beast in the post and protecting the rim. KG was always the better help defender and wreaked havoc on the perimeter. i'd venture to say KG also has quicker hands. KG had more defensive intensity and energy on that end.

i'd take duncan but it's important to note what team we're talking about here. if you want a defensive anchor in the paint, you go duncan. if you want a guy who will teach a young core defense on a team that isn't dominant at any one position, you take KG. he will make the team a ton better.

Right, so its post '03 season. Still the point is exactly the same, are you saying Duncan was already in decline in '03-04? Its funny how you imply from rookie season Duncan was in his "the best years", but not when he was 27 years old. Garnett played few seasons longer, and got the same cut off of few prime years.

You're a Duncan hater. But KG is not a better defender than Tim. Just quit it. And Tim was very versatile when he was around 240 and in his prime. His base was solid as **** even at that lower weight. He was great at the P&R defense as well. Which is KG's strength. We need to stop with the he could guard all five positions BS. Tim could do the same for a couple of plays every game as well.

It missed most of both of their primes from 00-05. Do you really think Duncan was better in 99 then 05? Like what was he better at? Was a better defender in 05, better passer, scored the same amount of points with less possessions.I mean, he put up almost the exact same stats in 99 in 39 minutes that he put up in 05 in 33.... Then you add 98 in his best years?

I don't know where people get their ideas about Duncan on this site. Some of the stuff people say about him is just crazy.

Could you imagine how good Tim would have looked with Posey, Wallace, Allen, Perkins, Powe. Shit would have rejuvenated his career.
