Re: The Thunder might catch the Mavs in the standings
Mavs are done. Honestly i think they should clear a lot of there horrible contracts and start over.
They will lose in the first round to either the nuggets or blazers. Appart from Dirk there roster is shit. Its a shame butler went down because they were playing well...
Cuban just adding pieces every year is really a waste of time imo, its pretty hard to argue because they choke in the playoffs basically every year

They still have HCA over Boston; as long as they win their remaining games.
I believe LAL has a better conference record against the east then Boston has against the west; which is the next determinant for HC based on the tie-breaker rules.

Actually, they dont.
Celtics and Lakers are tied in the loss column, and the C's have a better conference record. Its against your own conference, not the opposite conference.

lol you're stupid as hell.
btw its pretty obvious Mavs are tanking for that 4th seed, and they are smart for doing so.

Wow thanks for the knowledge... In all your wisdom, how are they smart for this? Denver will beat them in the first round...
Best case scenario imo is they maintain 3rd and face NO if the standings stay as they are.. Unless Portland overtake them then id be betting on the Blazers over the Mavs...
The only thing thats pretty obvious is the mavs are headed for another first round defeat, but hey, im stupid as hell what do i know????

The Mavs would be smart to tank and get the 4 seed. Denver will be tough, but easier than a potential blazers matchup. At least by tanking you avoid the best team in the first round for sure. There is no guarantee that you get the Hornets. Hell, even the Grizzlies might be as tough or tougher than Denver in a playoff series
Regardless, the Mavs are in for a battle in round 1. This team is absurdly over-rated as usual because of an inflated regular season record. If you actually look at the difference between the nuggets or blazers and the mavericks.....there is none. well, actually....the nuggets and blazers just have better players. the only reason the mavs would be favored is because of dirk.
If you took the best player off of the nuggets/blazers/mavericks...and then played them all against each other. The mavs would have the worst team by far.
Tanking is very smart at this point. Get healthy. Avoid Portland. If you do beat the Nuggets, you get the Spurs and not the Lakers. Its just smart.
But regardless, this Mavs team isn't doing anything without a healthy butler. And it sounds like he's not going to be there at all.

Well said I agree with a lot of your points..
I just dont see the Mavs beating the nuggets or the blazers. Kidd and Terry will not show up. Others are too inconsistent and it will be on Dirks shoulders.
Without Butler its not going to happen.

This times a thousand. Why sit out starters at this stage of the game unless you are purposefully tanking?
Nuggets-Spurs gives them a better chance at WCF than Portland-Lakers by far.
Though, the Mavs won't make it that far, it's still a smart strategy.
Re: The Thunder might catch the Mavs in the standings
Playing this game is dangerous by the Mavs. What if NOLA gets the 6 seed? That's the only team I think they stand a chance of beating in the first round. They're risking that match-up for Denver who they most assuredly won't beat in a 7-game series.

Its a 1 in 3 chance though. And is Memphis an easier series than the Nuggets for the Mavs? Not so sure about that. Portland is by far the worst matchup for the Mavs.
We have homecourt in the first round and if we happen to win, we would get the Spurs and not the Lakers. We have not shot against the Lakers. At least we would have a shot against the Spurs.
Its not dangerous at all. The 4 seed is much better for the Mavs.
