The more attractive they are may be in direct correlation with how long they've been together. Studies are ongoing. Let's be honest here, most NBA players aren't terribly handsome. So for Mehmet Okur (he's just the first person I thought of) to have a gorgeous ass wife might mean she honestly thinks he's Brad Pitt, or maybe he has a personality of gold, or maybe she saw dollar signs.

Of course it's terribly irresponsible of me to think that every attractive female with a rich/not very good-looking male is simply out for money.

If I ever became rich/famous, I'd always be suspicious. When you're a target, you can never be too sure I guess.
