Default Wake Forest firing Gaudio, has now hired Jeff Bzdelik

Gaudio will leave after three seasons with the highest win percentage of any Wake head coach on the back of two 20+ win seasons and a second round exit despite losing 2 underclassman to the draft last year, and securing the eighth ranked 2010 recruiting class.

On the surface that seems like one of the craziest firings especially for someone with no character issues.

But it's true he's had an incredible amount of talent that doesn't ever really click for some reason. He's also had two 5 star recruit 7-footers nailed to the bench showing little signs of improvement.

I really don't understand unless it is some behind the scenes issues, keeping players to stay is the only problem I've seen him have asides from the obvious chemistry issues!

Terrible tournament play and terrible offensive game plan.

That's true but look at Clemson, Purnell's team's were terrible in the tournament and he wound up at a new school with a raise.

Depaul is pretty desperate though. I could see Dino getting the Rutgets job.

I'm pretty sure AMinu had already declared for the draft. He wasn't going to come back next year, regardless of this.

I wonder if any of Wake's 2010 recruits bail because of this? Seems possible, likely even, that Travis McKie and Carson DeRosiers will be back on the recruiting board.

Colorado's Jeff Bzdelik gets the job. I'm not very impressed.

Colorado has a basketball team?

A very underwhelming hire by Wake.

It is hard to look at Bdzelik's coaching record at CU as an evaluation of his performance there. As a CU grad, I will say that winning at our school in bball is borderline impossible. There is no in state talent, no reputation, no history of success. He could have done a better job in certain areas - like recruiting a big man - but he was alright given the circumstances.

i'm sure that was the main factor in picking the next coach. so hopefully for them getting an NBA guy will help keep the recruits. BTW the recruit that's really going to tear things up is JT Terrell
