I believe mainly because he is young and has a history of bouncing back well. He seems to work hard. He is 7 feet tall and is mobile. And, he is our guy.
Phil is doing a great job of managing Andrew in terms of his minutes and how involved he is in the offensive gameplan. It looks to me like we are trying to get him to peak by the end of this month(assuming we advance in the round and beat Denver). If he does peak at the end of this month then our version of the Twin Towers will be truly deadly come June.
I still believe in Drew, and it looks like he is starting to hit his stride in these playoffs. 14pts and 6 boards in 20 minutes is a great game for him to build on. Hopefully he can get a double-double in the next game and really have his confidence thriving come the next series.
Remember, he is a young kid and his confidence is fickle. He is not yet mentally mature enough to shake off a bad game and still believe in himself. So, his confidence really depends on having good games like he did last night.
I expect to him peak at the end of this month and be at 100% come June.
odom injury has nothing to do with it.. he started game 1 also and floundered badly... he also started a couple games vs utah and was horrible there
he needs to learn to play no matter if he starts or not... if he has to start to get motivated then we may as well ship him off...
He's been hurt for most of the 2nd half of the season while getting only a few games before the playoffs. He has clearly struggled making adjustments. Hopfully this game will get him going. We need him more for the conference finals and finals than the first two rounds really....

I thought Bynum wasn't effective off the bench cause he couldn't get into a rhythm from the start, of course he didn't do it in the other games...but now that he's back in the lineup and is playing well, it should carry over. He might not have got this oppurtunity if it wasn't for Lamar's back.

you missed the point of my response,or i wasn't clear..
if it took odom getting injured to motivate him then he has issues to deal with...
the fact is he has not played inspired ball in the post season.. even if you give him some leeway for his injury he still has been lacking severly in the motivation department... sorry but even if his knee is bothering him to some extent there's no exuse for the sorry play this post season... 5 pts and 3 rebounds per game out of a player who is supposed to be the cornerstone of the paint is just not getting it done..
he is averaging more turnovers than blocks and steals combined, he has more personal fouls than fg's and rebounds, so far he has clearly been helping the other teams more than the lakers...lol

this wasn't his first start in the playoffs, it was his 5th.. the only reason he has not been starting because his play has been all over the map...

I didn't miss any point you were making, I don't think Odom's injury had anything to do with his improved play. Bynum has looked bad, even the biggest Bynum fan willl agree and he has looked lazy at times but like If any sportsman is very low on confidence and doesn't have faith in his abilties you are bound to play poorly. Bynum has valid excuses on why he has been so poor, if he was completely healthly and was playing like this then yes people have every reason to lay into him. I do agree though there is no excuse for poor effort. I've said for a while that the best out of Bynum won't return until next year but performances like last night is what L.A needs. Here's hoping he will finally get it and keep on improving.

i also pointed out he has started hafl the playoffs games this season so even with odom going down he has more than had his chances to shine...
I'm not sure what triggered the breakout performance. People could say well he had a breakout game due to the Rockets not having much size and he took advantage but he faced the same line-up in game 4 and was poor.
Just hope he continues from here as I mentioned before Bynum will be needed for the conference finals and then hopfully finals more than he will be needed for the first round and now.
Damn GTS, cut the kid some slack! Yes hes been absolutely invisible until last night, but dude is just 21 years old and this is his first playoff action. This while coming back from a knee injury and missing 30 some games. Its all in his head right now.
He's been on the shortest leash possible (rightfully so) which didnt help his confidence. I actually think the Odom injury helped to restore some confidence in Drew for the simple reason, there was a hole that needed to be filled and Phil asked him to fill it. Phil didnt have to start Bynum, he could have started Powell, especially with the lack of size houston has right now.
I'm not saying this is his breakout game and now he is going to be a world beater, but I'm saying lets see how this plays out and give the kid a chance to work his way out of this funk.
At the end of the day they are going to need quality minutes out of him if they are to fight for a title.
