Default Raptors should hire Eddie Jordan as their head coach!!!

First of all, they rushed by firing Sam so early. They should have waited more to see if things for work out. Now, with the coach that they have, they arent going anywhere. They wont make the playoffs with that coach.

Raptors have great players and with a good coach, they can make a comeback. Eddie Jordan, last 2-3 years, despite the big injuries, he took Wizards into the playoffs. That guy knows how to coach. Raptors have great players and I am sure that with Eddie, they could make a comeback and make to the playoffs.

The Raptors do not have great players. They have one great player. The roster is dysfunctional. Eddie Jordan will not bring them NBA quality wingmen, a PG who can defend his position, and health to Jermaine O'Neal. Coaching is not the problem in Toronto, and it never really was under Sam Mitchell. The team needs a real infusion of talent.

The Raptors are still paying Sam Mitchell and will be for another 2 years (I think?). Don't expect MLSE to allow Colangelo to get any even moderately priced coaches while that is still going.

No way. The Raptors need to upgrade their defense, Eddie Jordan will not fix that. His Wiz teams didn't play good defense at all.

As I said, they did make a mistake by firing Sam Mitchell. The roster isnt the real problem. That team could be a good team, if things are put together. Sure, they dont have an all-star wingman, but Anthony Parker is good. He can shoot and defend well. Calderon may not be a good defensive pg, but his offense is extremly good. With the team that they have, there s no excuse to lose to OKC who were 2-24 or something. The roster isnt perfect, but it isnt the real problem.

The roster is the problem. Calderon does not put pressure on the opposing team's bigs because he is not a great penetrator. He is also one of the worst defensive PGs in the league.

The Raptor's bigs are jumpshooters.

They have no NBA starter quality wing players.

The fact that this roster does not fare as poorly as The Thunder and The TWolves is a testament to Chris Bosh. The Wolves and Thunder have arguably better talent than the Raptors.

I agree. The issue here isn't with Triano (and may not have been with Mitchell, though I do think he held this team back last year) its on the players.

They simply aren't competing hard enough on a nightly basis (see Collison over Bosh last night). Under Triano, their team D has improved, they just give up way too many second chances and don't get enough themselves . Thats heart and desire, and you can't coach that.

Sam Mitchell used to be the guy who helped lighting those guys some fire for years, until he couldn't do this anymore this season and then got fired......

When a coach loses his players, you have to look at replacing him.

I agree that the roster just doesnt have elite talent. But I think thats mostly just the result of not getting lucky enough in lotteries, rather than insufficient general managing or coaching. I mean look at San Antonio and Cleveland. Those teams just happened to win the lottery and got all-era superstars dropped on their laps. Its not like it was some shrewd, strategic planning. It was just dumb luck. Shaquille O'Neal went to the Lakers bc they threw money at him and he wanted to go to Los Angeles. The Raptors dont really have the luxury of being a "hot destination" for players. Heck even the Celtics were only able to get Garnett by parlaying all the assets and lottery picks they'd been saving from finishing in the basement for a handful of years.

So what can the Raptors really do? They're just stuck in the middle. They can neither win it all nor win the lottery. You could give them any pair of GM and coach in the league right now and that wouldnt change. I think Collangelo has actually done a pretty good job with what he's had available. But the bottom line is really that championship teams are almost always built by luck rather than strategy, with the Pistons being the closest thing in recent memory to an exception. And they only won one.

The irony is that the Raptors basically have no choice but to get WORSE in order to have a chance to luck into a situation that will make them a championship contender. Right now they have a team thats good enough to perenially keep them out of the lottery. Which is whats ultimately going to keep them out of the finals. It drips with irony.

Nah starface, BC has bungled every great piece that the team has had. #1 pick: bungled. TJ Ford:bungled, JM Calderon:bungled. The Blazers reportedly offered a nice package for Jose, BC stood pat. I feel he traded the wrong PG. When the center-piece of your team is a jumpshooting bigman, your PG has to be a playmaker/penetrator. There was also talk of a Jamal Crawford swap for Jose. Jamal would have been the dynamic second option that Chris has never had. The TJ Ford deal was terrible because it mortgaged this season on the health of Jermaine O'Neal and brought in another jumpshooter. The only silver lining the team has in the TJ deal is that next summer expirers may come back into vouge.

I'd bet dollars to donughts Colangelo is simply waiting fro Iavaroni to get fired in Memphis and will then hire him.

That was the guy he wanted in Toronto in the first place but he had to give Mitchell an extension after he went out and won coach of the year.

What will bringing in Iavorroni solve? I doubt he will be let go by the Grizzlies. Coaching is not Toronto's problem.
