Without Garnett the Celtics will crumble.
Without Pierce, they wouldn't have won jack last year. KG almost choked away playoff games. KG may have been their best defensive player, but PP was their best offensive player and did a helluva job on D too.

For the record, I think he shouldn't be getting any kind of consideration. His numbers are worst than last year. IMO, he doesn't have the ball enough to put up MVP type stats.

KG's better imo.

Kevin Garnett was clearly the better player last season, and in every round in the playoffs except the Finals

Look up the numbers

KG led the Celtics in scoring in the playoffs. Pierce was awful to start the playoff and not very good through most of the Cleveland series. Without KG they don't make it out of the first round. I'm not saying Pierce didn't have a great season last eyar but it's absurd to suggets he was at garnett's level then and absurd to suggest he's there now.

Numbers don't tell you about missing key FT's or shots down the stretch. Pierce brought it in the finals more than KG. KG did a good job, but the finals MVP was the best player.

Exactly. If you don't believe it look at the numbers.

Garnett is clearly the best player on the Celtics, but Pierce is excellent at doing things that stick in the memory. Someone referenced that Pierce has had more bad games than great games...that happened last year in the playoffs, too, but the good games are a lot more memorable. Add that to Pierce having a higher standing in the Boston base for being the native son, as well as the added prestige from Pierce winning Finals MVP and the added press from Pierce saying he was the best player in the league, and you get more eyes on Pierce and also those that want to give Pierce more shine.

What key FTs did he miss?

Edit: I'm not hating on Pierce, without him the Celtics would have not won the championship, the same goes for every member of the Big 3.

If you look a few posts up, I clearly said Pierce played better in the Finals but every other round, KG was clearly the Celtics best player.

Watching them on tv and in person, it's clear KG brings solid defense and relatively consistent scoring, but he's not going to be relied upon to take over clutch games like Pierce. Pierce is more potent offensively, and that was needed because while Boston's great team defense was consistent all year long, their offense wasn't. The thing that kept games close was the times their offense stagnated, and in the finals, Paul showed on both ends of the court why he deserved the finals MVP.

I guess Tony Parker is a better player than Tim Duncan since Parker did better in that finals couple seasons ago and won the finals MVP?

Yeah, Garnett was the better player in the playoffs, but Pierce was the better player during the regular season and the Finals.

And why would I care what Bill Russell says? Do you want to know what Magic Johnson thinks of Vince Carter?
