I will say that as a rockets fan i would pick dwight over yao to start a franchise due to dwights potential and durability. but it also should be noted that dwight has been in the league for four years now and he has'nt shown any great deal of improvement interms of offense repatoire. when you go up against a giant like yao, you need to have variety on offense.

Last night yao took away dwights ability to muscle his way to get his usual points. that left dwight a little bewliderd. he had no other ways of scoring against yao from there on. conversly yao can kill you on a variety of ways. it's those little things that dwight can improve on.

Yao is more polished player now. Dwight will be better in 2 years at most.

As a center

Yao >> DH12

Both Yao and DH12 > all other centers. But we wont know who is better until they play against each other. As evidenced the stats Korki Buchek posted. DH12 only won their matchup once out of 16 times they faced against each other.

But in terms of importance to their respective team

DH12 > Yao

take DH12 out of Orlando and their average at best

Take Yao out of Houston... There is still Tmac and Artest.

Rockets Win.

Yeah because one game where Dwight was mostly in foul trouble should really solidifies the fact that Ming is the better center. (sarcasm)

Give me DH any day of the week, better shot blocker, rebounder and more efficient from the field. Not to mention, isn't injury prone.

Yao is playing more like a center while Dwight is naturally a PF, just like Al Jefferson.

Yao might get the better of Howard 99 out of 100 time, that still doesn't change the fact I'd take Howard. You can claim Ming is better then Howard, but for the duration of 82 games Howard produces better numbers and stays healthy. That is why I take him every day of the week.

Dwight held his own with Yao in the 2nd half. Once he adjusted to Yao's size he was fine.

Thats because yao was sitting most of the second half because he picked up 3 quick fouls in the 3rd quarter. in the 4th quarter as soon as yao came in, he started schooling dwight again.

BTW, 6 of dwights 13 points came against chuck hayes and landry defending him. if anything, he had 7 against yao.

He didn't "school" him in the 2nd half. He schooled him in the 1st quarter though.

I think I must clarify something here. Although I think Yao is a better center than Dwight, I'm not saying Dwight is a bad center by any means.

If anything, these two are far ahead of the pack in terms of dominance and impact on the court.

Yao Ming >>> Dwight Howard >>>>>>>> the rest (maybe exaggerating a bit)

yao is clearly the better center head-to-head based on the facts. whether he's better overall i don't know- durability is obviously an issue and the bigger the player the shorter he tends to last.

dunno what mutombo's secret was since he played pretty well into his mid-40's (his real age, not his listed age).

He hit some shots on Dwight and Dwight hit some shots on Yao. Hardly a schooling.
