Default Hmmm... Something Interesting About Cleveland And 2010

Alright, lets assume for a moment that LeBron resigns. Ohio is happy.

Now, if the Cavs let every player they can walk, and they sign LeBron to an extension, their salary will be about $40 million, and they will have the following players:

LeBron James
Mo Williams
Delonte West
Daniel Gibson
JJ Hickson
Darnell Jackson
2009 First Round Pick
2010 First Round Pick

This leaves them with about $20-$22 million in cap with which to pursue other free agents, however it leaves them REALLY thin in front. Because of this, lets assume they draft prospect bigs in 2009 and 2010.

What does Cleveland try to do?

My vote: try to sign either Bosh or Amare in 2010, then sign a defensive player or two with the remaining cap.

It really all does depend on Lebron. If he says adios basketball in Cleveland is gonna suck for a long while.

If he signs another contract... well... Cleveland could absolutely dominate...

these threads of free agent signings are getting way out of control. It seems like this is the offseason or something.

Cleveland this year will most likely trade Wally for a young SG, and next offseason trade Big Ben for a good PF/C. They resign AV and then they are instantly contenders (not that they aren't now). This team has so many options that no other team can offer LeBron. Be competetive now, and if/when he resigns be competetive then.

Amare and LeBron?

That's my ultimate dream. By then Amare will have improved his D and become a more well-rounded player, rather than just a crazy offensive big. Imagine what kind of front court they would have with Amare and LeBron running it...seriously, not even D'antoni would know what to do with such talent on the offensive end.

Look outside your window. It's still 2008 for another month and a half.

You idiots completely overlook the fact that Lebron wants to win a championship. You can't let your whole team go to sign him and expect him to want to come and play with a sh*t lineup. What makes you think he would be content to stay in Cleveland with the PROMISE that they'd sign Bosh, Amare, or Wade?

Mathius

Wait...the first half of your post chastizes anybody speculating about the future ("it is 2008 for another month and a half"). The second half speculates about what situation Lebron would be in...

Contracts are a huge part of NBA basketball. If you don't like 'em, stay out of the threads.

Don't reply to Mathius, it's a waste of time. He's so negative about everything his depression has skewed his logic on everything.

Anyway, about the original post. I'm really not worried about it or think about it. I have a wife and kid on the way, NBA basketball just isn't important enough to waste that much energy on.

This actually isn't too far off.

If you add in 1 of their 2 2nd rounders that is 9 players.
That leaves 4-6 spots that need to filled.
I'm assuming they will look to sign one big time free agent to pair with LBJ leaving them with 3-5 open spots.

That leaves..

Z - expires in 2010
Wallace - expires in 2010
Szcebriak - expires this year
Pavlovic - expires in 2010
Varejo - expires this year
Snow - retired

Who of these do they keep and for how much?
I would guess Z and Varejo would be resigned, but the rest are goners.
However they may have to renounce the rights to all of them in order to clear cap space enough to land a 2nd star to pair with LBJ.

Really I don't see what its wrong with JordanL's original premise. Cleveland has alot of free agents by 2010 that they probably won't keep, as they would probably look to add a star FA if they can.

Why would you respond to a very civil, thoughtful post with such ignorance and hostility? If you don't want to discuss that matter don't read the thread...are really so insecure you can't let other discuss things you don't enjoy.

does this mean danny ferry is actually doing a good job? I think lebron will stay put and the cavs will again build the team around him with better talent. I don't think they will try to sign another big name just have a solid team and bench around him.
