Seeing the HS dunk contest, where LeBron has his head clearly over the rim, we can affirmative say that he had AT LEAST a 40 inch vertical leap back then. Doing simple maths and giving him a legit 6-8 (which he was w/ shoes), he should jump 40.1 to get his head just exactly at rim level.

No, no we can't. He has a 37 inch vertical like proclaimed by most before his draft.

BTW, if we want to get technical, its not really a vertical since its a running jump. I doubt anyone has recorded a 40+ inch real vertical bar maybe James White.

Whatever he needs to get his chin at rim level - while trying to catch an alley oop, instead of purely trying to get as high as possible. That guy could probably compete in Olympic high-jump. He's 6'7, and let's just say his head is 9 inches from the top to his chin - that's a 50 inch jump, and it might not be his absolute maximum.

This dude in the video below has a truely crazy vert. He's 6'3 or so but he undeniably gets his most of his head over the rim. On that second dunk, the angle is very slightly misleading since he's in front of the backboard, but he gets his damn head level with where I can get my hand

The only 3 guys who I can believe MAY have gotten that high that have been in the league the past few years are Travis Outlaw, Dwight Howard & James White.
