Most teams in the nba suck at it. Most teams don't have a clue how to smooth out a players weaknesses and accentuate their strengths. What's frustrating to watch are players with obviously fixable weaknesses, floundering year after year and then ending up playing in China
Take Michael Beasley, the problem with his game is simple he takes bad shots and doesn't rebound. The solution is to get him to stop taking pullup jumpers and rebound the basketball. He has average perimeter skills for a small forward and lacks lateral quickness, but, he's a huge mismatch for powerforwards. If he concentrated on drawing powerforwards away from the basket by hitting open threes and setting screens for point gaurds he'd be a stud on offense.
The only teams that consistently develop players are the Bulls and Spurs. Both teams take guys with talent and show them how to put it together, Tiago Splitter, Danny Green, Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, etc. etc. Other teams just can't do this.
