Re: Kenyon Martin: Lebron has NEVER BEEN a LOCKDOWN defender
At his best, Bron was a great man on man defender. BUT guys like Bowen, Tony Allen, etc. are defensive specialists. They are on the court for that SOLE REASON pretty much. BECAUSE if they didn't have that ability, they might not even be in the league.
However only a SMALL AMOUNT of perimeter players were great scorers and great defenders in one package. Bron at one point was one of those rare guys. MJ, Kobe, West, Hondo, and Wade as well. Kawhi entered that realm once his scoring picked up.
But it takes A LOT of energy to check a great scorer ALL NIGHT and still be a great scorer at the same time. Other guys who aren't great scorers have more energy to expend defensively. But once MJ locked in, he could defend AS GOOD ad anybody on the perimeter. Once Bron LOCKED IN, he could be a great defender. So I think great two way players should be celebrated JUST AS MUCH as defensive specialists. Maybe even a bit more when u think about it!
So some scorers MIGHT NOT put Bron on that level BECAUSE he wasn't hounding them all night long! Bron is more of a two way guy. Capable of being a great defender AND great scorer! Plus his ability to guard almost every damn position made him unique from many other great perimeter defenders. That's why the analysts MAKE THE DISTINCTION between defensive specialists AND two way players. The two way guys can be DEFENSIVE SPECIALISTS. BUT the DEFENSIVE SPECIALISTS can't be DOMINANT SCORERS!
