snapped my sternum in half in a car wreck...doctor said I only lived because I was drunk, had I been sober it would have torn my heart up.

Shattered my leg (tibia and fibula) skateboarding. I nearly vomited from the pain.

Since it was a sternum injury(steering wheel/air bag) I am assuming you were driving? Or no?

Fractured my tailbone once. Damn that shit hurt. As in it literally hurt excruciatingly bad to shit. For months. Sitting was painful too.

Ahhh. My father fractured his sternum, when a car pulled out in front of him. He blamed my mom's Prius he was driving. He said if he had been in his pickup, he probably would have just walked away from it.
He was in the hospital a week, how long did you spend there?

Re: Have you ever broken any bones in your body?
I broke my left wrist on a chasedown block just a little bit over a month before tryouts my sophomore year. Concussed as well. It was one of those types of jumps where I was going so fast (had a lot of catching up to do) that my takeoff was rushed and had virtually no gather, which led to a fast horizontal jump as opposed to a normally elevated leap. As a result, I landed seemingly within a foot of the padded wall out of bounds, still moving at near full speed. Had no chance to stop. One of the few times I saw legitimate stars. I thought my head was the lone injury and did not realize the wrist pain initially.
I recall the doctor saying, "Sorry about your season", and that sucked to hear. But I ended up healing in time for tryouts and made the squad as I hoped I would. I even think the break helped me by forcing myself to focus on conditioning. I ended up being in a lot better shape than many of my teammates, which was kind of a big boost for an underclassman trying to establish himself amongst the bigger fellers.

I was in the hospital only one day but after I was confined to my bed for around 3 weeks. It was awful, for the first couple weeks I couldn't even get up to piss, had to have my GF bring my a container...moving any muscle at all hurt.
I also lost a decent amount of weight during that time...eating was difficult.
I suspect your father is correct about the Prius vs truck...being ABOVE the impact is a huge deal. Being in a truck wouldn't have mattered to me though, hitting a tree is hitting a tree at every height.
