Con: Chronic pain for many once they retire. Knees, back, ankles, etc. The lifestyle probably wouldn't seem so hot if you have to get cortizone shots every morning just to get out of bed.

The only true con is the amount of work you have to put in to remain in the league. People don't realize who good these players are and how diffucult it is to play on that level. Even the so-called scrubs and bench warmers are better than 99% of all basketball players in the world.

Translation: Bucks fan crying about Yi. So sad. Maybe, considering all indications were that his handlers wouldn't let him play in Milwaukee, your team could have taken the initiative and either dealt the pick to a team that wanted him or drafted a player who would play for your team. I agree it's unfortunate that the athletes can hold this kind of sway, but it's nothing new. Your team was stupid and now they're paying for it. Hopefully you end up with decent value from the pick.

Best thing would be a bench warmer or MLE-type guy

You still get paid millions a year for practically doing nothing but practice plus you don't have the pressure or lack of privacy that comes with being a star.

You could even win a ring or two (Matt Bonner)

PROS: The money (obviously), the opportunity to travel across the country and see various cities/arenas, playing a game for a living, having the platform to make a different that professional basketball provdes.

CONS: Not friendly for family life, hard to tell who your real friends are, or who just likes you for your money, being under constant scrutiny

No they aren't. Only thing stupid is Yi thinking he's bigger than the NBA and can change the rules instead of accepting them.

As you can clearly see in this thread, the NBA has pros and cons just like any other career in the world. In the end, it's a far better job than just about anything else in existence, and most people would jump at the chance. If Yi really values working in a certain city over making millions of dollars to play a pro sport though, that's his personal choice. Without the NBA he may not be able to get a Visa to work in the United States, but it's still possible. There are a lot of farming jobs in California that unskilled workers like him can land - his big city dreams don't neccesarily have to die.

As a famous athlete, you can't take your family out anywhere. No trips to six flags, the beach, or hell...........even McDonalds. Think Michael Jordan could take his kids back in the day to get a happy meal? The main reason why they build such large mansions is b/c they know that if they venture outside of them, they are gonna get mobbed. Might as well as happy PLENTY of creature comforts

If you love the game of basketball, I don't really see a lot of cons..Have a good support system, don't go out and club or party everynight. Hang out with the same ppl, stay true to who you were before you were in the NBA. With all that damn money, I don't see where there'd be any problems... Just don't act like a thug or gangsta and you'll be fine.. it's always thoughs who put themselves in certain positions that bring more con's to them

adam Yi doesn't care where he plays. his agent is doing all of this, because he gets a 20% cut of endorsements.
