I don't have a problem with Kobe getting the automatic berth this year that veteran stars have historically gotten, but at some point it has to stop. It's doubtful that Tim Duncan will be an all-star this year, and his resume is at least as great as Kobe's.
I get the HOF angle, but nobody is forcing you to factor awards/accolades into player rankings.

Like we need more proof. Most of us have been saying the same thing about these all-star selections for decades! Heck when Yao Ming missed a season and a half (2011) he was voted as a started!! He couldn't play, sadly. Fans should get to pick the reserves and let either the all-star coaching staff pick players or let Sir Charles, Kenny, EJ, and Shaq pick the players.

There's no real distinction between being an all star starter or reserve in terms of historic perspective or legacy. I've never heard someone argue one player is better than another because he started more all star games. Too much is made of the fans voting for underserving players. I have no issue with fan voting since the game is an exhibition for fans. Rarely if ever would a player who's voted in not at least make the team as a reserve. Kobe may be that rare exception, but if you're top 3 in the league in scoring you're probably getting selected.

Actually I see Kobe is currently the 4th leading scorer. Still though, I'd venture to say few if any players ranked number 4 in the league in scoring haven't been an all star.

Who gives a shit? Let the fans vote who they want to see.

That's the fucking point. They're not asking fans to pick the All-NBA teams. If they want to see Iverson, let them vote Iverson.

We live in America, bitches.

Kobe Bryant deserves his all star game selection based on prior voting patterns of other NBA legends.

Back in 2003 Jordan got on the team putting up worse numbers and he even had the media pressuring Vince Carter to give up his starting spot for him.

For someone who joined in 2006, you're pretty ****ing retarded

Total number of All-Star Starters: 10
Total number of all-star reserves: 14

Do you want the game to be ruined even MORE? Would you like to see JR Smith, Jeremy Lin, and Nick Young in the all-star game? Then Hey! Go ahead, let fans vote for the all-star game

(By the way, ur an idiot)
