    Default Underrated players: Damon Stoudamire

Apt comparison today would probably be Mike Conley. A player who keeps teammates involved, can score ISO or in the flow of the offense whenever needed, and plays solid defense.

What? He was a terrible defensive player. He was also a terrible PG. He was so bad that he got replaced by a 37 year old Pippen at the pg position in 2003 on the Blazers. All he was ever "good" for was low efficiency ppg. Mike Conley has been a much better player than he ever was over the past few years.

    Underrated?

He is rated exactly how he should be. An undersized, inefficient PG who only put up half decent numbers on a bottom feeder team.

Ya Damon was fun to watch. And a very good PG. Even at times an All Star caliber PG. But Damon wasn't underrated. His efficiency was so average to below average. And he WASN'T a dominant enough player to make up for it. He got his just due in my opinion.

U had guys like Mark Price, Tim Hardaway, and KJ before him who were CLEARLY on another level than him. And I would consider THOSE GUYS more underrated than Damon EVER WAS! Because THOSE GUYS were LEGIT HOF caliber players at their best. All NBA team guys multiple times. And all three IN THEIR OWN WAY evolved what smaller PG's did. U don't hear their names as much as we should. After Isiah, those three were THE GUYS to add some new shit:

Mark Price : The 1st PG to really combine the great new age 3 point shooting with great handles and great passing ability! In some ways, like a smaller version of Steve Nash. And after Nash, Curry took it to the ULTIMATE LEVEL with score first mindset with the ultimate assasins mentality. BUT Price was the original who brought that blend to the table.

Tim Hardaway - Took the crossover handles to the next level. BECAUSE he was a SICK BLEND of strength, speed, and handles. They wasn't a smaller guard before who had that kind of blend.

KJ- Was a jet like Isiah with the rock. And was the same size pretty much. BUT KJ put DOMINANT freak athletic ability on the map for small guards in game wise. Spud Webb was a freak in dunk contests. BUT he wasn't a dominant player like KJ was in the game. And Spud wasn't dunking on people IN THE MANNER KJ was! Even in today's game, u don't see 6'1 guards doing shit like KJ was doing CONSISTENTLY!

Yeah he was not a good defender. He was like 5'11 and not terribly quick either. I wouldn't say he was a terrible PG but he definitely was not a high IQ playmaker either. That whole jailblazer team was selfish, I don't really blame him for not distributing the ball more though, everyone on that team was about getting theirs. They had a young Jermaine O'Neal on their team and he was buried on the bench his entire 4 year rookie contract because no self centered veteran was about to give a young player any shine. What DS was was a fearless scorer.

Conley is just an absolutely horrible comparison for Stoudamire......unless you are comparing how they are underrated and not playing style.

Ironically, his rookie season was his best as a pro. Weird.

I remember he lost his mind and shot 21 3 pointers in his last game as a Jailblazer but made only 5. I believe that was an NBA record for attempts until these last couple of years. Not surprisingly he still holds the record for the most missed 3 pointers in a game.
